Does anyone have an opinion on the Shingles Vaccine?

We've both been talking about getting it but haven't yet decided. They recommend it for people as they begin to age because the immune system begins to weaken and thus makes us more susceptible to shingles since it is our immune system which stops the outbreak.

One has to have had chicken pox in order to get shingles or even cold sores. I've had chicken pox and used to get cold sores when stressed. Haven't had one in forever but I know my body has the virus in it already.

My daughter actually had shingles, which I honestly didn't realize that people actually got it outside of middle age and older. And she was initially misdiagnosed when she went to the doctor for it so she never got the shot, the 72 hours or whatever had lapsed and she was left with the pain meds as the only option and what she describes as the most horrendous pain she's ever experienced. Now she's young granted, but I saw her live through it. (She also used to text me when she'd taken her pain meds, funny stuff. She was convinced there was a dragon on the train with her. :))

Anyway, she's not here right now, but I feel I can adequately convey her experienced opinion on the subject: GET THE VACCINE. DAMMIT, GET IT NOW

I haven't had it yet. Actually have an appointment with a new doctor on Monday, mine retired in March, so I'll probably ask him about it now that you've reminded me.

try my best...passed 2 in hospital twice and one at home after medication...like day and night...take my daily eurologist-prescribed Flomax tablet and haven't had a serious one in nearly 2 years. *knocks on wooden head*
