Without the retards, who are the mouth-breathers gonna pick on to make themselves feel better?

than anyone suffering from a serious lifelong desease, well, i guess they have a serious lifelong
problem as well, hmmm they are probably all on the same list, incurable.

We used to call the metally retarded idiots, morons, and imbeciles but those words became offensive.

Then it became mentally challenged but now even that word is offensive. But terms like idiots, morons and imbeciles really shouldn't be applied to the mentally challenged rather saved for politicians and lawyers.

Yep, and we weep bitter salt tears over how much you hate us. All the way to the bank.

Painting them all as managers of Tim Horton's is also a disservice. It's a huge commitment and parents deserve the right to say no.

Until they are born and lived a few years then and only then can their capacity be judged. Killing them before birth IS painting them all as invalids. As for parental skills, they can be taught.

Mentally retarded? Who is holding them back?

I can't imagine what decision I would make IF I was in a position to need to make a decision. I would hope I'd have enough money to not require any help from the gov't (since it's unlikely to be a reliable source of help, nor one easily accessible) and my family large enough to help and not feel burdened. To bring a child into the world who is going to have such challenges would be a heart wrenching decision to be sure.

Myths and Truths about Down Syndrome

MYTH: People with Down syndrome have a short life span.

TRUTH: Life expectancy for individuals with Down syndrome has increased dramatically in recent years, with the average life expectancy approaching that of peers without Down syndrome.

MYTH: Down syndrome is hereditary and runs in families.

TRUTH: Down syndrome is hereditary in approximately 1% of all instances. In the other 99% of cases Down syndrome is completely random and the only known factor that increases the risk is the age of the mother (over 35). Translocation is the only type of Down syndrome known to have hereditary link. Translocation accounts for 3 to 4% of all cases of Down syndrome. Of those, one third (or 1% of all cases of Down syndrome) are hereditary.

Many years ago I took a few psychology courses at UBC because I started late and the courses I wanted were full. Seems to me they used to put numbers(I.Q. scores on terms like idiot, imbecile, moron, etc. and Downs Syndrome kids were called Mongoloid.

That's because Downs Syndrome (and certain other disorders) sometimes produces facial features that retarded lackwits think "look Asian."

Mongoloid is a description of physical characteristics. It's not a term for down syndrome

Shoulda been aborted as a "burden on society." Just ask D*ck Dawk.

He was very fortunate to be born into the family he was. His reality could very well have been experienced from inside an institution had his parents been unable to raise him.

The term was widely used and accepted when I was growing up. While I do not currently use the term (aside from above post to Walter) it was common when I grew up. It was not judgmental but just a designation. The PC movement informed us that it should be considered derogitory and so now people are sensitive over it.

We had our last kid around 40ish and the doctor wanted to do a test whose only purpose was to test for downs. There was a non-zero risk of complications from the test (although small). My wife and I talked about it and we decided even if it was downs, we would not abort so we did not even bother with the test. Turns out son did not have downs. Financial considerations never even entered the discussion.

But I understand that this can be a concern and no parent should be forced to have a kid they don't want and can not handle.

So was n¡gger, kyke, spick, bohunk, chink, wagon burner, paki, etc etc. Are they today?

Nope. Again, I was addressing a specific post with Walter. I do not use the term in any context any more.

P.S. I don't even know what some of those terms mean.

ETA: I edited the original post because you are correct. I should not have used the term.
