Birthdays didn't get celebrated much around our house, but I remember on my fourteenth (actually a couple days later) my mom gave me a Johnny Winter record album. Typical of her rare and wildly inappropriate gifts, I'd never heard of Johnny Winter. She probably stole it somewhere. I gave it a listen. The man was a genius.

He will be missed.

Last month, in an interview with JournalStar.com, Winter, who released more than 25 albums in his career but never won a Grammy, was asked what he'd like his legacy to be.

He replied: "I just hope I'm remembered as a good blues musician."



He will be for a LONG time.

RIP Johnny.. remembered fondly from the great days of FM rock.. lost touch with him in recent years (really decades).. but never my affection.
