It isn't, unless you count Chief Elizabeth Warren and the Wa-Na-Be tribe as native Murkans. For what it is worth I am glad you're "here" at CanCon... but I meant in the argument as it is no longer a Native Merican fight.
Once upon a time, civil rights was a real, vital, and pressing thing. And guess what? we fixed the really bad stuff. But along the way, we created permanent memes. So now there's folks more and more invested in civil rights and discrimination, just as there's less and less civil rights and discrimination problems. So what we're fighting over now is the marginal stuff. Is it important? Probably. If you've got the flu and cancer, cure the cancer and you've still got a problem, just not as big a problem. And with small problems, there's no obvious answer. So you get down to disagreements and symbols.
My opinion: job one for Indians is getting the governments, Federal and state, off our backs. All the assistance and special treatment has hurt us worse'n anything else. Defund and cancel all "Indian" programs, give us full and equal participation in the life and law of the country. I'm confident we'll swim, but if we sink, that's better'n being permanent wards of the state.
