my daughter mentioned today that she heard they are talking about possibly changing the format of the
triple crown races. i don't think they should, these races are very special, and should remain special.
when secretariat won, he was the first for over 25 years,then there was a few following him over
the next few years, so whats the big fuss, keep it going
until it is won again, and if they find that the treatment of horses makes them less 'tough', then
change that treatment.
in OT it has been a toss up, lucky or unlucky puck bounces, just the way the game goes, rangers have
not looked out muscled or outplayed in OT at all, in the third periods yes, not OT.
i like olcyk, he is a good analyst, but i don't agree with that analogy at all.
no he hasn't been a super star, and any player who wants to go, should go, i don't want any player
on the team who doesn't want to be there, same when hodgson left, good riddance.
kesler has been a very good player for canucks, he plays hard, lots of energy, very good skater,
but always has been over rated, in my opinion. he had the one big goal scoring year.
now is the time for him to leave, they can get a good return for him, so do it quick.
To me any such change would be an insult to the memories of the great horses, trainers, breeders, and jockeys of the past. What the industry needs to do is to import new blood from overseas (esp fillies). This will strengthen the breeds and make them more durable so that thoroughbreds can be trained for stamina and not just speed.

i had to miss the belmont, and i am disappointed to hear of the behavior of 'california chrome's owner',
he made such a point of repeating how he was made fun of for buying that filly and doing that breeding.
and he made such gains since the derby, only to shoot all of that down it seems.
i didn't see or hear anything he said, just replying on the reports i have read.

yes he did, and good for him, he deserves congratulations on a good race,
and perhaps he is as shocked by the owners reaction as everyone else.
just a quick change of topic, as i am sitting here, they just showed over again, the
landing of that commercial jet a few years ago on the hudson river, it was,
again just as glorious as the first time i saw it, what a pilot, and what nerves of steel,
he saved all of those lives, with his quick and decisive move, any hesitation would have
caused that plane to crash, killing all aboard and perhaps many on the ground.

When Secretariat won he would've beaten anything on the track. What a horse. I love listening to that race call. Chic Anderson was an awesome announcer. When he saw that Secretariat had reached the 3/4 mile pole in 1:09.3/5 Anderson's said "Secretariat is blazing along!". No horse has ever reached that marker below 1:11. You knew something special was unfolding. As a kid I remember watching it live. That may have been the greatest sports event or greatest athletic performance of all time.

wow, haven't watched that for a long time, brought goose bumps to my skin and tears to my eyes, it was
a sight to behold.
i remember so well watching it live, my two 'horsie' daughters knew all about the derby, the preakness,
and then the belmont, we were all watching, cheering and jumping around.
my youngest daughter was born in l970, same year as secretariat, we have 'his' hard cover book, and
i am going to bring it in the kitchen right now, and go thru it again as we have our morning coffee.

rangers had a very good game, but quick was fabulous tonight, and some of the saves he made were
so athletic it shows just how good he really can be.
l.a. s first goal bounced off of a ranger
l.a. s second goal bounced off of a ranger
l.a. s third goal was an attempted pass by richards which bounced back to him and was shot in the net.
lucky bounces.
l.a. turned on their great defensive game, which can be technically sound, and with a 3 goal lead,
kept rangers at bay for the rest of the game.
l.a. have a strangle hold on the series, but without those 3 lucky goals tonight, this game could have
been very different.
quick stopped many very 'dangerous shots,' some were from the outside, but 'many' were point blank, which
he managed to get in the way of.
could be different next game, maybe rangers will get the lucky bounces.
nash is playing much better, looks like the big bulldozer i remember him to be, once he gets going
he is very difficult to stop, but he is getting the big bucks to score goals, and he isn't doing
that, and now brad richards has played a couple of poor games, so that doesn't help.

speed in the first period, and rangers looked energized in the last period as
well, didn't run out of gas, and of course neither did l.a., as they never

I will never ever forget watching Secretariat win the Triple Crown. I cried, I remember that. What a horse. What a race. He was and is the reason that, though I do not watch horse-racing on a regular basis, I tune in when I hear there might be the possibility of a Triple Crown winner. Thirty-five, now thirty-six years between winners only heightens the excitement and anticipation.
I was sorry to read about the owner's melt-down after the loss...........some things really are too good to be true.......shame that.
I believe the Rangers are going to a muster a last stand on Wednesday and win one game in this series at home, for their fans and themselves. They will not win the Cup but they will go out proudly having given it their all. At least, that is my very fervent hope.

I was all revved up for a game tonight only to find out that the game is for tomorrow - oh well, softball will have to wait until next week.
oh, i hate that feeling, then when you find out its tomorrow, that seems so far away.
the way the season comes to an end is good for me, as it is gradual, teams being eliminated a few
at a time, till there are only two, then i can slowly unwind as well, and when its over its not
like quitting 'cold turkey'.
i have been watching the jays and mariners. watched some of the yankees and the mariners tonight,
don't think its quite over yet. i like jeter so much, and will be sorry when he is done.
the hockey draft is close to the end of the month, i look forward to that too.
according to the media, there should be a flurry of trading activity starting soon, right up till, and
probably including during the draft.
then the free agents start july first, so they will be resigning or moving soon after that, there
aren't many this year.
we were kind of concerned about 'that' owner's reaction if his horse won the triple crown, cause he seemed
so flustered and choked up, and i said to my husband, "i hope if he wins he doesn't have a heart attack',
but didn't even think about what he would do if he lost, guess we know now. lol
well, i hope rangers win one game too, i have two reasons, first one is for vigneault and the ranger
team and fans, so they don't finish off very down and out, and secondly i want l.a. to win it at
home.

The NHL season is ending at just the right time for me, talloola. The pre-season CFL games are already underway and the regular season kicks of on Thursday, July 26 with the Toronto Argonauts battling it out with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Toronto took the pre-season game over the Bombers by a slim margin of 24 to 22. Lot's of new faces in the line-ups as coaches take a look at their newest additions to the teams.
The BC Lions will travel to Edmonton this Friday to play the Eskimos in their pre-season game.
From what I am reading and hearing on sports programs, the players are set to ratify the tentative deal with the league. Lots of grumblings, as is expected, but overall it appears the vote will be in favor of getting it done and the season underway.

glad they are not going on strike, they sure aren't happy, but they better get on with it, and
maybe next time they can make better gain, the cfl has done so well in past years, they don't want
to fool around with the popularity of it, and begin to lose fans.
