Retirement parties aren't what they use to be. The workforce has changed a lot. Most people are too busy to plan anything except fighting the next fire in their day. And if they do have a moment it is to figure out who will pick up the kids at daycare or cook dinner after their 1.5 hour commute home. The social environment in the workplace has been eroding for decades. Overall workplace loyalty is nothing like it used to be.
Although sad that his last day was without any recognition perhaps he could've retired on a day when their was at least someone at work, if it was important to him. It looked deserted no matter where he went.

yeah that's what I will be getting when I retire too...no pension but likely a party to celebrate the lean years...lol
Perhaps this guy didn't get any party because he is a jerk?
I have no regrets about my retirement "party". It was a 40 pounder of rum (40 ounces) that probably cost the guys about a buck n a half each (any leftovers went to kids' charities). We all had a couple drinks and a couple pizzas and went home.

I smell a setup. Even a union shop would not be that empty during any working hours. There was NOBODY anywhere. If it was a working day where are the people? If not a working day ... then his co-workers are like me -- I am not going to work on my day off for nobody.

Things are a changin'. Ungrateful jerk is what he is, but I'd better dollars to doughnuts he was never late picking up his cheque. -
It was in the middle of the ice storm that he created this video.
He is a whiner and I suspect very selfish.
I'm not sure why he wants a send off or party as most people I know phoned in their retirement as they couldn't wait to leave and do other things...........
yeah that's his upside alright; likely makes over $25.00 an hour with excellent benefits and a nice hefty pension... the guy likely has little to no education and made a nice life for himself and will have a nice retirement (money wise). The thing is, money can't change a bad attitude so buddy won't enjoy it, sucks to be him

I just watched it again, started out with 31 years 9 months ended up with 30 years 9 months............wonder what it really was! -
I'm not sure about the ice storm theory as all the lights were working! I'd bet on one thing, a day or so after he did that he'll wish he didn't.it was a hit at management and the union...what he doesn't understand is that he was paid a lot of money for his particular job and he had job security, he gets a nice pension...I'd be grateful, but guess he needs a few more life lessons.Yeah, for sure! I worked with several people like that, just made life miserable for not only management but also for their fellow employees, one or two in particular even went as far as to sabotage the operation. It sure sucks to be them, after it's all over to have to look back with no feeling of accomplishment.
