well it did turn into a pretty good game after canucks got themselves going.

don't know what torterella was doing putting the sedins in the shoot out again, thought he would
have learned the first time, that it is a waste of time.

lack did well, played solid right thru to the end of the shoot out.

so now they have redeemed themselves on this road trip, don't have to go home hanging their heads.

Yep, that was a good game. Canucks had good "wheels", considering they played last night. I'd say they caught their "second wind" midway through the 2nd period. There was no lacking on Lack's part.

Isles > Rangers who continually wimp out, especially at home

Earlier today, I watched Canada > Russia in a university series being played in Europe. I understand the finale will be on tomorrow. Will check to see for sure ....

yeah, i expected much more from the islanders this year, they have dissapointed me for sure.

rangers were given a penalty shot penalty very early in the game which was a bogus call, then they
gave up a short handed goal shortly after.

they are also dissapointing this year, not sure what vineault is going to do with this bunch, but he
sure needs to figure something out, they are awful.

The Canucks beat arch-rival Chicago last night in an extended Shoot-Out.

Does anyone else dislike the Shoot-Outs as much as I do.

To me they smack of cheap gimmickry, meant to draw in unsophisticated fans in the U.S. by way of spectacle.

The Shoot Out will always be and ONLY be a Skills Display. They have a place in All Star Extravaganzas but in no way are a part of Hockey. You don't see Baseball deciding games on the basis of the Home Run Derbies.. or Basketball by Slam Dunk Contests. These are solely meant to entertain in meaningless demonstrations.

It all creates distortions in the ranking system.. since only 2 points are allotted in games with clear wins.. But 3 points shared in ties. It's all @$$ backwards. It seems the 3 points should be allotted to the team winning in regulation (like Soccer).. with 2 points shared in a tie with MAYBE a 5 minute OT to contest for the unclaimed point, which would remain unclaimed without a goal.

It's all part of the over reaching done by the NHL in the U.S. as the runt of the 'Big 4' team sports. It feels it is necessary to supercharge its entertainment value by contriving stunts and plots that have nothing to do with the sport.. drawing from Professional Wrestling.. but really just compromising its own integrity.

i agree with you, but until fans get up and walk away when the shoot out is going to start, it will continue.
and yes, the u.s. fans are different than the canadian fans, i see many of those crowds yelling and jumping
around at nothing lots of times, not canadian fans, (unless its playoffs), and those u.s. fans dictate
to bettman just how he will move forward, and this little gimicky game seems to excite many of those
fans, just as fighting gets people up out of their seats, and that also will continue, as it excites
people.
i like the 3 point for a win system, and it is talked about many times on radio sports talk shows, but
nothing happens at the g.m. meetings concerning this subject, so on it goes.

Actually the shootouts are a much better test of the goalies, no one to block any shots! -:)

I'm just wondering if the 3 point system will make an iota of difference to who makes the playoffs.

I'm just wondering if the 3 point system will make an iota of difference to who makes the playoffs.

3 points for an all out win, in regulation time, game over, but a tie, 5 or 10 minutes of 4 on 4, would be 2 points shared, and a win in overtime would be worth 2 points.

nothing for an overtime loss.

so a team is rewarded for winning the game in reg. time, which tells me that the stronger teams in that
particular year, will pull farther ahead, and some teams will get a point each after overtime, and lots
of teams will get nothing. i guess the shoot out allows more bottom type teams to grab a point easier.

not sure the league will buy into that because they 'want' to see more teams battling to get in the
playoffs, or able to pass by each other thru the season, and less teams be left out of 'everything'
early on.
fans will lose interest in their teams if they know early on that 'they' don't have a snowballs chance to
get into the playoffs.
that is 'key' for the league, putting people in the seats for the whole season, they don't care about what
we care about, so if they see that 'shoot outs' and 'fighting' keep people coming, that is there to stay.

there are some teams out of it early on now, and always will be, but 'more' teams battling with each other, with
a chance to catch 8th spot keeps the interest up, at
least thats the way i see it.

I started to watch that university series finale between Canada and Kazakhstan but it was so one sided that I lost interest. Canada was ahead 4-1 in the first period and were exceedingly dominant. Therefore, it was no fun to watch and I stopped seeing it.

yeah one sided games lose their appeal, what is the point, it isn't fun
to watch something that has no chance of changing, and the outcome is
obvious.

that is usually how the world junior tournament starts off too, i don't
usually watch those games till there is some equality, so that either team
have a chance, from the drop of the puck.

CANUCKS COME HOME TO HOST THE JETS

JETS (16-16-5) at CANUCKS (21-11-6)

TV: TSN-JETS, SNET-P

Last 10: Winnipeg 4-5-1; Vancouver 8-1-1

Season series: This is the first of three games, and the first with each as a member of the Western Conference.

Big story: Winnipeg forward Evander Kane, a Vancouver native, will play in his hometown for the third time in the NHL and the first since March 8, 2012, when he had an assist in a 3-2 loss.

"I don't get an opportunity too often just because I've been in the East my whole career," Kane told the Jets website Saturday, "but it's definitely nice to go back in front of my friends and family and play in Vancouver."

Kane has four points in three games since returning from a lower-body injury. The Jets have won two of those three after losing four of six without him. Linemates Michael Frolik and Mark Scheifele have combined for eight points since Kane joined them.

"I think when you know the puck's going to the net it makes you want to go there a little bit more," Kane said. "I think we're realizing when we can make plays and when we should probably just get to the net."

Team Scope:

Jets: Kane has allowed Winnipeg to be a bit more physical, and they outhit the Florida Panthers 31-23 in a 5-2 win Friday. The Jets will try to maintain that against the Canucks.

"I think anytime you can eliminate their time and space, and make sure they can't make those tic-tac-toe plays that they're capable of, that would be the big thing I think for us," said defenseman Zach Bogosian, who played Friday after missing 15 games with a groin injury.

The win ended a six-game home losing streak; they had not won at MTS Centre since Nov. 15. Winnipeg plays six of its next eight on the road, where they are 8-8-1.

"We have two games before we break for Christmas," coach Claude Noel said. "So we'll focus on our next opponent in Vancouver and then back in Edmonton again. It would be nice to win them both. And the players will know that, we have to be ready to play and ready to start."

Canucks: Vancouver added to its most impressive stretch of the season Friday with perhaps its best victory. After falling behind the Chicago Blackhawks 2-0 on the road, the Canucks won 3-2 in a shootout.

Vancouver was 1-4 in shootouts this season prior to that, and John Tortorella made the rare call to Henrik Sedin as the third shooter. Sedin is 0-for-4 over nine seasons of the tiebreaker.

"I want the Sedins to do it," Tortorella said. "They're our best players, it's their responsibility, they want to do it ... and I want them to do it and I want them to succeed in it."

Though neither Henrik nor Daniel Sedin scored, and together are 0-for-5 this season (Daniel is 4-for-25 lifetime), expect them to continue to get chances.

"I just have a [heck] of a time not using top players in that," Tortorella said. "But I know I've had top players who wanted no part of it. Those two want to do it. That's why we went there."

Who's hot: The Jets have six power-play goals in their past five games. They had ranked last in the NHL before the spurt. Defenseman Tobias Enstrom scored his first goal in 22 games on Friday. … Daniel Sedin has five points in his past five games; Henrik Sedin has four in four. Goalie Roberto Luongo had gone six straight games allowing two or fewer goals before giving up four to the Dallas Stars on Thursday.

Injury report: Jets forward James Wright (flu) returned to play Friday. Defenseman Paul Postma (blood clot) and forwards Matt Halischuk (forearm) and Jim Slater (sports hernia) are out. … Canucks defensemen Ryan Stanton (ankle) and Alexander Edler (lower body), and forward Alexandre Burrows (broken jaw) are out.

I hope that limb isn't too high up in the tree, could be a nasty fall. lol

i bought a canuck calendar last week at 'pharmasave', entered my name in a draw, got a call today
saying i won a prize, went there, and picked up 'my canuck jersey', so i'm sitting here on game
day with my game day jersey on.

jets are a hard team to figure out, they play well, but are not consistent throughout a game, and
make lots of 'silly' mistakes, watched them the other night, let in 5 goals, after they had been
winning for two periods, against florida, and
lost the game.

i think they need a coach like torterella, someone to kick their butts quite often, and get them
focused and serious.

It just doesn't get any better than that, Talloola. Make sure you sit close to the T.V. so they will be sure to see you and get some inspiration. LOL

Good thing this game isn't on CBC-last night the internet feed was So Bad it wasn't even funny-stopping/starting/buffering and even repeating what had already happened-the video was fine but the feed totally confused.

That was the 4 o'clock games by halfway through the Edmonton match it became more stable but I'd had enough.

I tuned in late so I didn't see what happened to Luongo. Eddy Lack did a good job....made some good saves.
Game ended up 2 - 1 for the Canucks.

it seems a winnipeg player knocked his skate as he went by, thus pulling a groin, at least that is what
shorty and john garrett seem to think, nothing official confirmed.
they said because his foot was facing directly forward, it pushed his leg to the side, causing the injury.

of course he could be faking right?!!!!!!!lol

Yeah, they were lucky to come out of that one as well as they did. Never did see what happened to Luongo, the play was sort of interrupted with Sestito scrapping. Actually I think that Sestito has more brawn than brains- a modern day Dave Semenko maybe! If I was Tortorella, I think I would play Sestito only when there is goal difference of 6 either way. I thought the Canucks didn't play well at all in the 2nd period. But they got the two points (kind of balances off when they played well to give up two points) Lack was good.

yeah, they made quite a few silly mistakes in the second, bieksa was guilty of 3 of his own, till he
began thinking before trying to clear the puck from his zone.
they were a tired team and it showed, but they sucked it up in the third and pulled off a very satisfying
win, and a good way to end this section of games before xmas, now a long rest till sunday.
Tanev was his usual self, playing great, and he scored the winning goal,
and was canucks number one star.

Looks like the powers that be in the league are smartening up. I think this is the first year there are no games scheduled for Boxing Day. Time they gave the boys a little breathing space with family.
