Grats Blackhawks on the Cup!

Condolences Caknucklehead fans on ending up with that arrogant @$$ as your head coach. In some ways, I do see Tortarella as a good fit for Vancouver: there is an awful lot of underachieving talent that needs to be read the riot act, but on the flip side, I think Vancouver's window has slipped by and now he'll be there for a rebuild.

he hasn't been hired to rebuild. this team has about 2 or 3 years window of opportunity left before
the twins become older and might be thinking of retiring, so this is a challenge for torterella. He
said as much, that this team is allready a winning team, has almost been there, and he said that his
job is to take them to the next level, push them as individuals, and as a team to reach their goal.

rebuilding will come later, but of course there will be some changes, but not to the core. they will
probably bring in a few more younger players to add lots of energy, and that is good.
He is good with young players.

We have to step back and give him the space he needs to succeed, as I was one who couldn't stand his
antics, but listening to him today, I think he will try his best to clean up his media problems,
and also he said he must not attack players thru the media, so that is over, he said.

yes, i've definitely turned the corner with this hiring, I like everything he said, I like that he takes
responsibility for his reputation, BUT, I hope the media isn't just accepting that from him, and not
taking a look at themselves as well.

I see on sportsnet right after the press conference, 'don tayler' asked a stupid provocative question,
thinking he was beingfunny and cute, nah, torterella wasn't biting at that nonsense, and told him so,
good for him.
Taylor asked what he had told vineault about' 'how' to get along with brooksie,' who of course is the
main media guy who torterella argues and fought with, and brooksie was just as bad, and they ended
up looking like a couple of children.
taylor didn't have to go there, and was told as much.

It was interesting to hear torterella say that he and vineaulot have had many
conversations concerning 'each' others teams, I like that, they obviously are
willing to help the other one off to a good start.

The media are a bunch of nincompoops for the most part talloola........they get paid to ask the stupid questions hoping they can 'catch' someone off guard. I take them with more than a grain of salt.

Yes, I was most impressed with Torts and very glad to hear that he has been talking with Alain - though I suppose that should come as no surprise being that they each know their former team the best. More than willing to take the wait and see attitude regarding Tort's coaching and really do hope that he can provide the spark to turn the team's fortunes around. I like how he mentioned that getting a team's defence going was equally as important as getting the offence going - the Boston/Hawks series high-lit that need for sure.

Would love to have heard what fans on Team 1040 had to say but unfortunately I am house-sitting right now and the owners don't get that channel.

Torts was anything but arrogant in his first media interview, wulfie..........he was quite humble as a matter of fact and openly admitted his mistakes.......talking about the 'dark hole' he went into after hearing that he was fired. He was congenial and open in answering all the questions posed to him. I am quite sure that Gillis set him straight about his media behavior and how it would not be accepted in Vancouver ............though I doubt that will stop the stupid types from trying to bait him.

The window of opportunity for the Canucks is still open as many better hockey minds then mine have mentioned. This could be the fix that they needed..........sure hope so for the team and the fan's sake.

Would love to have been a fly on the wall during the talks between Gillis' and Torts, talloola..........I am quite certain that one of the topics of conversation had to be the need for Torts to clean up his act. Vancouver is a long way from NY and this is an entirely different market with much more media scrutiny.

17 of the 30 1st round picks are Canadians. The most since 2003. The game has become more global but Canada is still hanging in there in the talent pool.

Wasn't surprised that Nathan and Jonathan were the top picks........was quite surprised that Seth dropped to 4th.

today is the beginning of 'free agency'.

lots of players moving about, but the surprise at the moment of all of them is 'daniel alfredsson', who
will be playing for detroit this season.

canucks won't do too much, as they don't have the cap space, but maybe a couple of players who might
be available later on at the lower price.

yeah, seems everyone is taken by surprise, especially eugene melnick, (g.m.), who obviously was
dragging his feet, somehow. Alfie played last year at a salary way below his level, but probably
this year, he wanted a raise, but all the while it seems his friends in detroit were probably on the
blower encouraging him to come join them, and when money didn't show up in ottawa,'bye bye charlie'.

oh well, for me its kind of exciting.

detroit and columbus will be in the east next season, won't be part of our conference any longer, so
they will be off my radar list, but I will still be watching detroit, always enjoy their game.

I also heard Jarome Iginla has signed one-year contract with Boston - not surprised by that one. I think the Bruins will be a good fit for Jarome.

But the talk is all about Alfie. Fans are reacting with stunned amazement.

yes, but alfredsson said it was a selfish decision by him, he decided that detroit has a good chance
of winning the cup, and he would like to play for them for that reason.

it will take a while to sort out all of the players moves, and i'm sure there will be many more,
so by the time next season starts, we should know where to find them all. lol

yeah, iginla will fit nicely on the bruins team, but i'm surprised he is getting 6 million for one year,
wow.

lots of pre season games started now for the NHL, watched some of one of the canucks games
last night, lots of energy, looks promising, the other game wAs on in stockton, calif.
both games were against san jose. definitely have no opinion on any players, they just
need to keep on playing till the coach can see the starting line-up for the season appearing
before his eyes, and even then he will probably keep a couple of juniors to start the
season, and play them for a few games till he decides if they can stay or go, and i
agree with that.

horvat looks fine, but no decision should be made about him for awhile, also shincarick,(sp?),they can still play
another year of junior, but i disagree with the rule that he can't play in the ahl yet,
which is silly, he needs the ahl now, he has outgrown the juniors, but isn't old enough
for ahl, dumb rule, but immigrant juniors can play there, doesn't make sense.

Methinks the Leafs should have eaten more Wheaties before the game against my guys last night. The announcers kept saying that they were lacking energy - they were lacking something for sure as they went down 5 -2 to the Pens. Nice to see the Kid getting off to another great start. Go Pens.

Eric Lundquist's night just came to an end with a little over three minutes left in the 2nd P as the Leafs got their 6th goal on him. They lead 6 -2 over the Rangers. Where were these guys last night - looks like a brand new team out there tonight. Kessel's line has a hat-trick as he, Bozak and Khadri have all scored. NY fans are not at all pleased. :p

only one game in the nhl tonight, so i watched edmonton play tampa bay, and the oilers won 3-2,

they played very well, they looked good, and i was cheering for them all thru the game.

tampa bay tied it up late in the game, but the oilers scored again and held them off to get

the win.

their first win of the season, and stamkos didn't score. so good for oilers, they sure needed
that win, maybe now they will do better, as hall, eberle and neugent-hopkins tonight, all looked like
the stars that they are, and i haven't seen them look that good yet this season.

After the debacle at the hand of the Leafs last night, the big bad Bruins are faring no better - so far - at the hands of the Habs who are up 4 - 1 about midway through the 3rd. Go Habs, Go!

Well and truly screwed the Bruins are as the Habs just got another goal on them. YEE HAW! Go, Habs, Go!

Habs 5................Bruins ............1 puny little goal................how sweet it is. Carey gets his 10th win of the season. Rock on Habs!
