Child sodomizer cheats jail and takes the easy way out

A man found guilty of sodomising a young girl has died after swallowing a cyanide tablet moments after the verdict was handed down.

According to the St Joseph Post in the United States, Steve Parsons had a seizure in the Nodaway County Court last week after the jury found him guilty of the statutory sodomy of a 14-year-old girl.

The 48-year-old from Missouri was rushed to hospital but died. The coroner found evidence of cyanide poisoning in the body, according to the St Joseph Post.

Investigators searched Mr Parsons' car and found a contact number for a business. Inquiries showed Mr Parsons had ordered 100g of cyanide and had it sent to his business by overnight delivery on June 25. He was the owner of Parsons Tire in Maryville, St Joseph Post reports.

He was facing a seven-year jail term.

"I can't speculate to what he was going through but I'm firmly convinced that his death was not a result of a wrongful verdict by the jury,"

Gentry County Prosecuting Attorney Gerry Biggs said.

I'm a liberal minded sort but I don't think sexual deviants can be rehabilitated so he did the right thing in suicide. Seven years would not have changed him and he would then have been a threat to society again.

Indeed. Some complain about the costs of prison then complain again when the person "escapes justice" through suicide. Impossible to please some.
