The whole issue of gas prices needs to regulated by the government.. NOT using world oil prices as the guage (since Canada is energy self sufficient).. but the best interests of the economy.

Frankly Canada needs to nationalize the extraction and refining of oil, at least sufficient to meet domestic requirements.. as most oil rich countries have... while leaving its retailing to private interests under strict regulatory control.

That should cut the price in half.. at least... by leaving the giant, gouging, parasitic oil companies out of the loop.

Getting rid of a portion of the Fed and Prov taxes would easily drop the price to 1/2.

I kinda doubt we should expect that to happen though

You mean you want to bring back Petro Canada to run the whole oil business and you want the Libs to be in power to do it,,,,right!!

Peak oil is not true they have the stuff capped all over the place and they are working on keeping
prices high for profit margins. Natural gas is so abundant they should start putting cars on it if
they really care about environmental concerns.
The other problem I have is we share it with the world so we all pay and run out together. Why we
should ensure we have fifty percent of everything we have in our possession in order to have fuel
when it runs out for everyone else. The reason that doesn't happen is peak oil is a myth and we
have millions of barrels of it. It is like the climate change thing, yes we have climate change always
have is it going to destroy us all no, we will adapt. The problem is we hear something and some
believe it all even the stuff that makes your grass grow green. Others don't believe anything anymore
and that is not without reason. Most of the dire predictions are to cause fear so they can manipulate
us to keep their personal bank accounts full.
Politicians and big business working together to manipulate you and I and we just accept it

Taxes on OIL & Gas is a Government addiction..

Some of the problems with natural gas vehicles is;
-typical car cost $7+ more
-cars have to be equipped with high pressure gas bottles (3000 psi rated), reduces space in vehicles
-car accident issues with high pressure bottles
-the driving distance with a fill up is only about 150 Kms
-service stations would have to install high pressure compressors for fill ups, expensive!!

On the plus side, there is no tax included in the purchase of Nat Gas,,,,,,,,,,,,,,for now!!

NGV are usually dual fueled with gas for flexibility!!

No.. Petro Canada was botched from the outset by setting itself up as a retail distributor in competition with private oil companies, drawing from privately owned extraction and refining interests. I'm proposing just the opposite, as all other countries with major oil resources have done, by nationalizing the extraction and refining processes.. while leaving distribution, retail and exporting activities to private operators. Publically owned enterprises should not be in competition with private ones.. they should be chartered as a non-profit monopoly set up in the public interest.
