The rules are different when it's one of their own;

NBC News chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel has gone missing in Syria, according to Turkish news reports. The reports also say that Aziz Akyavaş, a Turkish journalist working with Engel, is unaccounted for. NBC News has been successfully keeping Engel's status subject to a news blackout—one to which Gawker agreed until now—for at least the past 24 hours.​

Here's hoping he's found safe and sound.

If a member of a hostile nation steps into a war zone, it is not surprising that they may go missing. That is the hazards of the job.

Whether its Islamic News outlets or CBC or NBC it is an unwritten law that journalists
and hardcore news people get a pass. The reason is that all sides need to have their
story told. Then we go into uncivilized areas of the world and they don't give a hoot
about telling a story because they are too stupid to see the value of it.
Even in Vietnam, the news people were not usually hampered by the warring factions
The Middle East is one of the last places on earth where the dark ages is alive and well
I do agree that death or capture are part of war zone hazards except once they figure
out these are media people they emerge unharmed.
