Moving from Vancouver to Red Deer

After visiting family in Lacombe, and finding out there is no provincial sales tax in AB, gas is cheaper and generally purchasing a home is also cheaper, I have decided to move to AB in the spring.

I'm 28, no kids or boyfriend. I am a certified dental assistant and I make $20 an hour here in Van, and can make about $25 in Red Deer.

My question to all you Albertans is....Is Alberta better? Or am I totally seeing a mirage of cheap gas and less tax.

Also, you don't have to pay $64/mo for your health care..

Traffic is less congested and your are not land locked by the ocean, a border and the mountains that can be pretty crazy to drive over in the winter.

Red Deer is fairly reasonable as far as rents go.. I'd say cheaper than Vancouver and the Lower mainland areas..

You're only a couple of hours from the Rockies, lakes and wildlife...

Also, Alberta economy far surpasses that sorry socialist crap hole of a province called Bring Cash.

It is what it is. There is no fascade like Vancouver.

I could care less about my spelling.

....neither could I, just figured it was a good opportunity to tease you a little..

Driving from Grande Prairie last night saw to moose running along side the truck.. at Valleyview, one dead moose that was able to destroy two tractor trailers.. the one the hit the moose.. destroyed.. and the moose tossed into the hammer lane, another tractor trailer passing the passing ran over the carcase and destroyed his under carriage.

I just missed all the action and was driving through all the blood and guts.. so sad to see such a beautiful and strong animals killed like that..

Red Deer is fine, but move to Calgary instead.
You'll have a lot more money to spend and you'll probably want to travel more.

The airport in Calgary is very convenient, you can fly to Vancouver return, for $300.
Plus there is more to do in Calgary.
Lived in both, I would highly recommend Calgary.

It's no mirage. Red Deer is an ideal place to live. You'll be pretty much halfway between two international airports. Rent is lower than either of the 'big' citiies. You have access to just as many amenities. And, it's quite a young city from what I understand. I think you'll enjoy it a lot.

Hahaha, ok, if you move to Calgary, live in the NW.
You'll be 15 mins from Airdrie and 10 min from the Airport AND Cross Iron Mills!!! Gotsa yeah!!!

You missed Nose Hill Park.. Calgary's Stanley Park but with real wild life, deer and coyottes. not homeless bums.. like the aforementioned city. ;)

360 View from Nose Hill Park - I took this video. I live 3 blocks from the park.

Nose Hill Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The NW of Calgary is considered the richest area of Calgary, and zone 4 (police zoning) is considered the lowest crime area in the Calgary Area..

Cross Iron Mills offers everything one could want.. in one place. Coming soon next to the Costco is a Target, Jack-in-the-Box and Carl's Jr. burger joint.. basically 10 minutes from the NW areas of Calgary.
