Hammer Ready To Fall On Canadian Government Post Office

The once all mighty Canadian Union Of Postal Workers have thrown in the towel and have decided to take the government’s last offer before the arbitrator forcefully made them take it. The postal union did this so they could say it was a negotiated settlement.

At this moment the union is setting up locations all across Canada for the union members to vote on it.

Ever since the government in North America declared war on trade and public sector unions these employee organizations have been losing ground and the union membership has been shrinking constantly or this is what the media wants you to believe, in truth the real reason is because of companies moving to cheaper pastures in other countries leaving the employees without work.

The major contentions are wages and pensions and in larger companies it equates to a big chunk of change just because thanks to a good government healthcare people live longer so they collect pensions longer.

The world has gone through major changes economically where the world governments have come together to solve problems like cancelling depressions in favour of bailouts in the trillion of dollars.

The ever growing families living in poverty due to lack of jobs because of governments misguided exercises in futility like free trade as an example they get jealous and complained.

Work contracts are changing and unions have to change their work mindsets if they want to survive these trying times.

Due to the cost and awards of courts in employment disputes major changes are coming.

New employees will start at a lower rate and take longer to get to full rate.

Pay raises will be replaced by bonuses.

Employees will have to take care of their own pensions.

Welcome to the new world.

Canada Post pays bonuses to 7,402 employees despite financial losses

Urban Postal Unit Negotiations (2011) / Bulletin
Negotiations Bulletin no. 110
This afternoon, after many weeks of discussion and some very tough decisions, the Union and Canada Post have reached a tentative agreement for the Urban Operations collective agreement.
To ensure that the members receive accurate information, details will be forthcoming early next week.
As we have stated in the past, a negotiated settlement is better than a collective agreement imposed by a Tory-appointed arbitrator. Watch for bulletins and check with your Local as to when your ratification vote will be held.
In solidarity,

Denis Lemelin
National President and Chief Negotiator
Canadian Union Of Postal Workers

Looks like they got a contract. Maybe that's important.

BTW, Canada Post unionized employees ALWAYS made sizable contributions towards their pensions, health and dental plans, etc. - unlike their managerial masters.

I still pay for the medical, drug, dental, life insurance plans at full rate. Sure as heck beats being without them. The life insurance pay out decreases as one gets older..........reducing term. Whatever. No complaints here.

They NEVER had sick time buy outs at the end of their career. If they had sick time built up, they lost it. As if should be. I left with a year sick time in the bank, as did most of the carriers.

I worked for and with some really fine people at a local level, but was glad to be gone. Now CPC is talking about night time delivery. Good luck with that. We used to be forbidden to work in the dark due to safety concerns. Like I say, glad to be gone.

Ask me some questions if there's anything else, Liberalman. Always happy to help if I can. I can give you some advice re: tax havens in the Caymans...........................not.
