Some Communities have done what needs to be done in these cases. The problem was caused by Humans and had to be solved by Humans---to the horrible disadvantage of the Bears.

After considering the impact that the closing of the dump would cause---large number of Bears prowling the Community looking for food; a plan had to be put in place. The Bears could not be removed and dumped into the ecosystem and territory of other Bears without creating havoc-there were too many of them. The count at the end of the night was 54.

There is only one dump in this particular Northern BC Regional District now. All garbage is collected in Bear Proof containers and hauled-in some cases nearly 300 KMS.
