The difference I'm calling your attitude a loser NOT you.
lol My attitude is a part of me. Your nose is ridiculous.

It certainly is more difficult to get a job as you age but that isn't the point I'm making. I gave the Child Tax Benefit program modification that came from the Family Allowance program and wonder why something similar can't take place with OAS and GIS.
oh, there's another one. The CTC. Why should anyone be given "free" money simply because they have kids? ;)

Because social assistance isn't set up as a universal program.

Why do you wear a left shoe and a right shoe?

The universal aspect of the program is exactly what we're debating isn't it.

With regards to the your shoe question, I guess the better question is, "Did Emelda Marcos need any new shoes or did she need a government OAS to buy new ones?" :)

Still waiting for your reasons why OAS and the old Family Allowance should be treated differently?????? I guess you're avoiding because you realize there isn't a "good" reason.

What?? Haven't we killed this useless pig yet ???
Seven pages of post later????

Haven't heard OAS referred to as a pork belly program before but I guess maybe it fits. That was the point of your comment wasn't it?

Not likely to happen anytime soon considering the tenacity of one of the debaters.:lol::lol:

And the lack of justification for the program from others.

Probably because most seniors' kids aren't home anymore so the seniors don't need family allowance and likewise OAS doesn't apply to folks with kids.

Yeah, that must be it.

Smart a$$ answers speak volumes as to the strength of your positions. When you are in trouble with your position start to personal attack the other side or start to make fun of the topic.

I guess its easy to tell that the people here enjoy getting their free money off the backs of their children and grandchildren. Was always taught that with age came wisdom, but I guess in the cases of the people here the adage should be changed to with age comes greed.

Oh well, let's hope that your children and grandchildren think of others more than you do. The good news is that this generation will be gone in 20 years so let's hope the next generation is more compassionate and has more belief in fairness than this one evidently does.

If not for OAS and GAINS, plus CPP retirement pension, at age 73 and disabled, my income would be $2119.08 per year

BUT, I do receive OAS-Gains, and CPP and my income is $17,000.00 per year!

IOW, I need both to survive.

The discussion isn't whether some seniors need the money, that's a given. The question is do ALL seniors need to receive OAS with any financial criteria.

If you believe that OAS is a type of social assistance, shouldn't be treated like other social assistant programs?

Knowing now that there is no age discrimination with any family allowance program I think I'll move back in with mom when she gets her welding apprenticeship.

Not all Seniors recieve OAS- Total clawback after a certain income range takes care of that.

Justification is only one criteria, cost, ease of application, emotions are others!

That's quite the clawback when an individual that makes $110K a year can still receive OAS!

While at the same time a two income family of 4 with an income of $110K do not receive any financial assistance from the government.

1 senior - receiving OAS
4 people - no government assistance

Interesting comparison isn't it?

I'd still like to see how getting rid of OAS would be financially viable as opposed to keeping it. The cost of implementing it would be freaky, IMO. Perhaps very gradually it may be the thing to do, but I can't see gov't being that conscientious.
