Lowering speed limits does nothing.

If you want to reduce the speeds that people drive at, you have to make the streets narrower and more difficult, then people automatically slow down. There's an interesting book called 'Traffic' that discusses many of these ideas.

One simple solution is to park vehicles on the street - that narrows it down, and makes people drive slower. Cities should seriously consider this as a short term solution - take city owned vehicles, and park them on the streets where they want to slow traffic.

Fine for a mini car perhaps. Ever try to drive a semi or better yet a lowbed down some of those city streets?

Trust me.. I have driven down city streets.. after my first visit to Chicago, I turned down a narrow street and 5 black guys jumped my truck trying to rob me. I started to carry a firearm in the truck after that date.

I drove smack downtown Chicago, Cleveland and many other cities.

If you notice the rain on my windshield, it was when I was entering Chicago to make my delivery.. still a nice shot from the cab of my truck.

I had a my phone mounted to my windshield to snap photos while I was driving.. this is just one of 1000's.
