The problem will be, what will the Globe and Mail report on? They'll have to stop slavishly worshipping the Leafs, won't they?

they aren't the only fishes in the ocean, on the west coast, we will know everything there is to know
about 'that' team, and our press will report quite well, we all are quite aware of the tunnel vision
problem in that area.

yep its done, just the formality of nhl approval, which will be done, unless no one comes out and
buys a season ticket, and that won't happen.

still curious about the name, but it really doesn't matter, hockey is back, and whatever they name
them is just that, a name.

I just hope that the same thing doesn't happen that has happened in edmonton on occasion, that a
player won't move to winnipeg, because they want a better climate, hockey is for the 'tough', and
those who won't play somewhere because of climate, are wimps, so who would want them anyway.
players in winnipeg will be pure hockey players and not picky little brats.

eg. danny heatly, chris pronger, etc.

congratulations winnipeg, welcome back, love having you back in the NHL, where you belong.

Great day for hockey fans in Winnipeg and Canada. I really can't see that there will be a problem with the ticket sales which are due to start tomorrow according to Mark Chipman.

As far as the name goes, we have had our fun here with picking names but it will be up to the club, I imagine, to name the new team. I doubt it will be the Jets though.

It will probably be nicer in 2012/13, when they get realigned to the West, but no matter what, it'll be nice to have team there. Why, even PMHarper thinks so!

I still like the winnipeg bisons, as the buffalo is the provincial emblem, and is all over everything
manitoba.

how about manitoba moose, let that name be given an upgrade to the NHL. I'm sorry that the moose
name won't be coming with the canucks ahl team, but it belongs to the winnipeg team owner, so it
will stay with them, as far as I know.

It must be the dead of winter where you all live.

This has been beaten to death-US team owners don't want anymore Canadian teams and that's that.

Well well well....it's nice to come back and rub some people's faces in it. I think it would be best if some people kept their comments for things they know something about.

Those of us in the know knew that when when one of the richest men on the planet wants to join the NHL club, it would only be a matter of time. Whether the NHL wanted Winnipeg or not was always irrelevant. They wanted David Thompson. They got David Thompson. TNSE will make the Jets The model franchise.

Go Jets Go!!!

The Jests haven't done anything except move yet, so I wouldn't crow too loud. The way they handled their front office/coaching issues was a joke, not something one expects from "The model franchise"...unless you want create a model of how not to do things (and we already have the Maple Laughs for that, so do we need another?). I still don't see how a small city like Winterpeg will make this happen but I don't wish them ill.

Winnipeg has done a masterful job with their front office/coaching issues. People have to remember that they had a very small window (timewise) to make considerable changes to the organization. Could the transition have been better? No doubt it could have...had TNSE had six months or a year to transition.

It's very easy to see how a small city like Winnipeg can make this happen....sell tickets. That, incidentally, is why large cities like Phoenix can't make it happen.

I think I suggested that a couple of weeks ago - I think every sport in Canada needs a team (or two!) called the RoughRiders.

Why is that a Canadian name - wasn't it the name of Teddy Roosevelt's group?

Have you driven on Saskatistan roads? I'm pretty sure that's where the name came from. Since Ottawa hasn't had an original thought in 150 years, they probably just copied it (maybe they thought Tommy Douglas named the team)

Nice to see the Jets starting to play better...9 points in their last 7 games and Kyle Wellwood, what's gotten into him?

i'm sure he realizes that this would be his last chance to 'stick' with a team, and he does have talent,
but his desire to try 'all' the time isn't there, and he has admitted that himself.

He has to dig deep and he will be fine, but not sure if he can, he is a bit different, not a very physical
guy, a bit of a book worm, and has to force himself to stay 'fit' and be at the top of his game.
when I say 'different' I mean compared to the majority of NHL players, who pride themselves in being very
'fit', work out lots, and they know there are hundreds of others just waiting to take their jobs if they
happen to let up and not play their best.

Sorry to rain on the parade(s) guys but QC and Winnipeg are dreams when it comes to the NHL, not reality.....

And in Quebec city they think the NHL is coming back there too.

FYI-it isn't/it never will and someone has been inhaling their own farts for far too long.

It must be the dead of winter where you all live.

This has been beaten to death-US team owners don't want anymore Canadian teams and that's that.

It's only a matter of time for any NHL team to fail again in Winnipeg because the support just isn't there.
...Will it ever happen? Hell no because Jim Balsillie isn't one of them.

Hell in some ways a team in the Okanagan makes more sense than Winnipeg...

This thread is all about what the Briddish call bollocks

Well, clearly the Jets have been a resounding success. Thought I would refresh this thread so some folks can eat crow. The naysayers were told over and over again that it would work and it would work well in Winnipeg. Yet, they felt they knew more than a successful billionaire businessman. How sweet it is.

yes, its very sweet, and from a rumour I heard today, it might not be too long down the road that phoenix
moves to quebec.
Just heard them talking on team 1040 today, 'the business of sports program', and the guest fellow was
going over certain things that bettman 'did not' say recently which led him to believe that it is coming
to and end sooner than later.

Kweebeck is the only logical choice. Like Winnipeg last year, they are the only city that has an ownership group in place and ready to accept a new team. They will be called the Nordiques and they will be my second favorite team.
