lol

what a barn burner between chicago and detroit going on right now, just going into
the 3rd period, chicago up 3-2- tsn-2

detroit played toronto last night, so they did start slow, but that didn't last
long, and the second period was very fast, and exciting.

we will have to watch boston play chicago and detroit soon, thats coming up
next week I think.

Detroit better win!

detroit won in overtime, they are now tied in points 53 ea.

what a game, very exciting, very fast, none of the crap that went
on in the boston/vancouver game, but of course they didn't have
the history that we did, but it seems that history has levelled
off, and we can start again on an even playing field.

the game was a battle royal, they are strong enemies in the western conference,
and always have to prove to each other which one is stronger, as well
as the rest of us do.

being victorious, and coming out of the western conference is so very difficult,
one reason that winning the presidents cup, or the conference championship is
important, to give home ice advantage, as that 7th game can make the difference.

4:30 PM Panthers - Canucks

Preview Canucks set for rare meeting with PanthersEric Goodman - NHL.com Staff 51.8
11 Oct 2010 FLA@VAN VAN, 2 - 1

CANUCKS (26-13-3) at PANTHERS (20-13-8)

TV: RIS (HD), SNET-P (HD), FS-F

Last 10: Vancouver 7-2-1; Florida 4-4-2.

Season series: This is the lone meeting of the season between these cross-conference clubs. The Canucks have won the last three games against the Panthers. Vancouver is also 8-0-1 with two ties at Sunrise, Fla. since its last loss there on Oct. 20, 1999.

Big Story: Canucks' goalie Roberto Luongo sat out Saturday's game against the Boston Bruins, but the veteran netminder is poised to play in front of his former home crowd Monday. Luongo spent five seasons with the Panthers and remains the franchise leader in career wins (108) and shutouts (26).

Team Scope:

Canucks: Vancouver began its four-game road trip on the right foot Saturday with a solid 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins in a rematch of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final. The Canucks scored all their goals with the man advantage to improve their League-leading power-play percentage to 24.4.

Backup goalie Cory Schneider was between the pipes Saturday as Luongo has struggled notoriously against the Bruins. But the young American goalie left the Canucks in good hands as he made 36 saves to earn his second straight win in as many starts.

"I think it makes a statement to the rest of the League that we're back and we're looking forward to getting back to where we were," Schneider said after the game.

Panthers: With losses in six of its last eight games, Florida needs to kick it up a notch if it hopes to protect its first place standing in the Southeast Division. An improvement over Friday's 5-2 loss at New Jersey is needed if the Panthers hope to compete against a Canucks team that they have struggled against recently.

The Cats skated stride for stride with the Devils, but fell apart in the third period as New Jersey tallied three unanswered goals, including an even-strength and shorthanded tally from Ilya Kovalchuk.

"Every time you play a back-to-back, it's tough, but you have to find a way to fight through it," said forward Krys Barch, who scored a goal on Friday. "There's no excuse for letting this one get away late."

Who's Hot: Luongo is 3-0-1 with a 1.68 goals-against average vs. Florida since he joined the Canucks to start the 2006-07 season. He is also 10-2-2 with a 1.76 GAA and two shutouts in 14 starts since returning from injury in early December....For the Panthers, Brian Campbell is in the midst of a three-game assist streak. The veteran defenseman has tallied 6 assists in his last five games.

Injury Report: Canucks coach Alain Vigneault confirmed Sunday that defenseman Sami Salo will sit with an apparent concussion after he took a low hit from Boston's Brad Marchand on Saturday. Marchand has a disciplinary hearing Monday for the clipping penalty. The Canucks recalled forward Mike Duco from the AHL's Chicago Wolves on Sunday. Forward Andrew Ebbett broke his collarbone following a Dennis Seidenberg hit on Saturday and is out indefinitely. Forward David Booth (knee) has been medically cleared to return to game action, while defenseman Aaron Rome (hand) remains on injured reserve for Vancouver. ... Goalie Jose Theodore (knee) is expected to be sidelined the next few weeks for Florida. The Panthers also have four other players on IR: Scottie Upshall (upper body), Jack Skille (shoulder), Sean Bergenheim (lower body) and Marco Sturm (head).

Stat Pack: Although Florida has turned it around this season, it currently owns the NHL's longest stretch without a post-season appearance, having last made the playoffs in 2000.

Puck Drop: While the Panthers have hit a bit of a rough patch recently, their veteran players know the importance of quickly getting back on track.

"Every point is so vital now. We can't be giving games away like that in the third period," defenseman Mike Weaver said following the Panthers loss to the Devils on Friday.

good, - that little rat, marchand, got 5 games suspension for 'clipping' on salo.

now lets hear the whining and excuses from the boston area.

boston coach said marchand was just trying protect himself, what a load of hors***t.

he is a repeat offender, hence extra games, and a fair decision, as salo

could have had his career ended with a blown out knee, or worse. As it is, he has

a concussion, and hopefully he will heal from that sooner than later, and be back

with the canucks.

very feeble effort by canucks tonight. very few players showed up, cody hodgson and
yanik hanson looked good, but for the most part the team was a no show.

florida is a very good team, can't just show up and expect to win. they are leading
their division with tampa bay and washington as part of it, and with the new players
added last summer, they are very solid.

luongo was doing some of his flopping around for no apparant reason, and that was
noticed by sports channels who later reported the game.

sure hope cory schneider stays with the team to eventually take over as the team
goalie, as he is becoming noticeable as the more solid goalie between the two.

tampa bay tomorrow, if they look anything like they did tonight, bye bye charlie!!!!!

Out of curiousity, what's your opinion on Burrows doing the same thing last year?

Who did Burrows hurt last year? If I knew I've totally forgotten the incident so probably not a big deal. Burrows is a pretty clean cut young feller!

Hip checks are occasionally spectacular....and they are great if nobody is injured. As someone who has given a few hip
checks and skated into a few hip checks, I think the difference is how high the initial hit is made. Ideally, the hit is just below the waist.
Too much lower and there is a danger of taking someone's knee out. Clipping, is hitting an opposing player at or below the knee and it is either a minor penalty or a major penalty if the player is injured. Bobby Orr's career was ended with a clip.

Funny how things have changed over 40 years- Big Gordie was one of the dirtiest hockey players ever (especially with elbows) and very few eye brows were raised!

Or was that just the "straw that broke the camel's back"?

Bobby Orr put a lot of pressure on his own knees with his skating and he had a record of knee problems. There was one particularly vicious knee on knee check that took Orr out of the game and a number of knee operations couldn't bring him back.

wasn't burrows it was raymond, and it wasn't clipping.

clipping is lower than a 'legal' hip check, which is what ballard and hamhuis
do from time to time, and also the timing of a hip check is important too.

a playing carrying the puck, being hip checked by a player approaching him is
acceptable, but the same check, as players are approaching the puck, and
both desire to get to the puck first,is not.

I heard that explained yesterday, there is a difference apparantly, as a player
without the puck, is not prepared for that type of check, but carrying the puck,
he is more prepared.

marchand's check was clipping, not a hip check.

hamhuis was given a 'clipping' penalty last year, when one of his hip checks
was viewed by the referee as too low.

Okay, that's what I expected.

Clipping is at or below the knee.
Marchand's hit was between the knee and the waist.

marchand's hit was below the hips but above the knees, hence 'clipping'.

go into nhl.com and click on the shanahan decision, by listening/watching
the video, which explains everything.

Out of curiousity, if you are saying it wasn't Burrows, why is everyone on TSN commenting on how this is exactly what Burrows did last year?

don't have a clue, I remember raymond giving marchand a hip check in the playoffs
last season, and that is what they are saying on team 1040 as well, don't remember
burrows ever doing a hip check on anyone, thats the only thing I can go on, don't
know why some are saying burrows, if he did, I don't recall.
