The Eastern final may well go down as the Chris Garrett show and most deservedly so - play after play it was 'hand off to Chris' and watch him go, down after down as Winnipeg fans were treated to a 20 to 3 win for their team.

Buck Pierce showed why he was voted 'toughest player in the CFL' as he ran for downs of his own to keep Bomber drives alive. Terrence Edwards managed a couple of catches but the real story rests on the shoulders of little Chris Garrett who got his chance to play with the injury to Fred Reid. So it was more than fitting that it was the little guy who ran out the final seconds on the time clock as he crossed the goal line for a Bomber TD to close out the game. He had 190 yards rushing on the day and the final TD.

The Bombers are off to the Grey Cup - amazing season for the team and their fans. Look out Vancouver you are about to be invaded by Swaggerville!

Rock on Chris Garrett. Congrats to the Bombers and their fans. Way to close out Canad Inns stadium.

Hamilton, on the other hand, hardly bothered to show up and when they did they were disorganized and inefficient. They proved once again why they hovered around .500 all season - lack of consistency - in everything. Ah well, maybe next year Ti-Cats.

Lions - 26 Eskimos - 3 at half-time.

Lulay has played like the CFL all-star pick he is - calm, assured, unrattled, and good for 241 passing yards so far. The BC D has also come up big with constant pressure on Rickie Ray and 2 sacks on the game.

Good as BC is playing, the Eskimos have been helping them mightily by taking stupid, senseless and worst of all, costly penalties. They are behind by 22 pts at the half and they better have a magical meeting in the dressing room or this game is going to stay BC's all the way.

The Grey Cup will be played in Vancouver next weekend and the BC Lions will be playing on home turf after winning the Western Final today by a score of 40 to 23 over the Eskimos.

The BC Lions are going to win the Grey Cup and they will do so because they have Travis Lulay - with out any doubt the best QB in the CFL today. 313 passing yards, 2 TDs, 1 TD that he got by running 61 yards to the end zone. On his way to the zone, he got two get blocks from his prime receivers - Geroy Simon and Arland Bruce.

It was well-played game by the Lions from the opening quarter to the closing fourth.

Well done Lions. Congrats to all Lions fans.

Sorry wulfie, I know you are an Esks fan. I wonder if having Jerome in the game would have made that much of a difference. The Lions D were brutal and effectively shut down most running plays for the Eskimos. I figured the Lions had the game in hand at half-time and nothing the Eskimos did in the second half really changed that. They made some good plays but the old discipline problem came back to bite them in the butt. I bet Kavis was simply beside himself over some of those roughing calls.

That said, I think that you have a great team in the Eskimos and a really great coach. This is Kavis' first year and look what he accomplished. Kudos to your team for finishing as well as they did. Now we can both sit back and watch the Lions win at home. :smile:

As a Bomber fan, I can only say that the Lions should win by a dozen next week. I've never thought the Bombers had the offense to win the championship. Maybe if the game was played in conditions like today in the Peg where the defenses can dominate but in a dome.....I fear it's going to be a long day for Winnipeg

I have been thinking along much the same lines, Cannuck. I wasn't impressed with their offense for awhile now and can't figure out why - they have great receivers and money in the bank with Chris Garrett even after losing Fred for the season. If Buck could do it all by himself, I believe he would but he is only part of the team. It was the defense of Winnipeg that I thought would come up big and they did but then Hamilton kind of made it easy for them. Good as they were, I believe the Lion's D is better. Thus with Travis Lulay and a stronger D, then you are right - the Bombers will go down next weekend - but it will be a feather in their cap that they made it that far. I expect to see some serious player changes on the team next season. Doubt if Buck will be back - but then I have said that before and somehow he keeps popping back up.

If Buck can stay healthy he has all the incentive to pull it off. I wouldn't be surprised to see this game won on a last minute field goal.

Every time he ran today he did so head first, and I just cringed.........kept thinking when will he ever learn.......but then that's Buck. I would be more worried about the Bomber O keeping the Lions D out and away from Buck - you gotta know Solomon will have him in his sights every minute he is on the field. And he is not the only defender well capable of shutting down the Bomber offense. Protection will be key, IMHO. :smile:

As far as incentive, I doubt Buck needs anything more than a ball in his hands and a chance to play. He seems like that kind of guy. He is the heart of that team. I really would like to see the Bombers win as I like Paul LaPolice and what he has done with and for the team - but can't see it happening. He will get another chance next year. :smile:

They did so clobber them, but the Lions are not the same team that got clobbered back then. They have improved with every game to the point that any former defeats are but a memory. LOL!

when they brought back casey printers I was glad and sad at the same time because I was waiting to
see how 'this' lulay fellow would do, and even though I hadn't seen him prove himself over time as
a quarterback, it was very obvious what kind of a person he was. It was written all over his face
everytime he had the chance to get out there and do his thing, the positive energy, the confidence
in himself, his ability to run and his eagerness to be lead and 'get' things done.

I think I mentioned some time ago that he 'needs' his own team, and if he wasn't going to get the
chance with the lions I wanted to see him get it somewhere else.

depended on him so much, and he made sure they didn't crumble, and now we see how that paid off.

I didn't 'discover' Team 1040 until late last year when I was trying to keep up with the Canuck's news. I now listen to it a lot during the day time while busy doing chores - actually listening right now so I can hear all the talk about the Lions and of course, Sid's comeback. Great source of sports coverage.

Yep Wally's a winner and deserves all the accolades that come his way.

“What is your position on sex before the game with your players?” asked a reporter who obviously had a hard time finding the proper word phrasing.

Here's how Paul LaPolice and Wally Buono handled the question.

“I would say, everything in moderation,” said the Bombers’ second-year coach. “You know I was warned about this question. The weird thing is, 10 years ago, we’d never hear this comment, but literally part of my thought process is: ‘Geez, I gotta make sure these guys don’t put it on Twitter.’ So that’s how a head coach’s job changes over the years. Now, it’s like: ‘Well, make sure you don’t put any of that on Facebook.’

“I think it’s kind of too much information from some of my guys, I really don’t want to be included in their Friday and Saturday plans. Just, whatever it takes. If that’s what it takes, boys . . .”

Buono, though, couldn’t let it pass.

“Well, I thought your question was quite weird, you said Paul had sex with (his) players. So just think about what you said, you weren’t saying Paul was having sex? You have to be careful, it’s brought a lot of attention recently, right? And not all good.”

As the room cringed, Buono — who’s heard the question eight previous times as a Grey Cup head coach — plowed ahead.

"Here’s what I say: my thing is, what you do, you do. Some players, God bless ‘em, enjoy sex. Some players don’t. In the end, it doesn’t matter. What matters is whether you line up for 3 1/2 hours. So if sex is an excuse, it’s a bad excuse. You want to be able to have some fun, but when it’s time to play, let’s go play.”
