I got a thousand dollars that says you couldn't find one NHLer that thinks the President's Trophy is more prestigious than the Stanley Cup.

/QUOTE]

That has got a lot more to do with the media and advertising money than it has to do about prestige of sports. The playoffs have a potential of 105 extra games with spectators in twice or three times the frenzy as regular season games with the corporate world pulling in $millions for everything from souvenirs to beer sales and of course all the extra travel and game tickets etc. etc. whereas the President's Trophy is just part and parcel of the regular season...............not one extra dime generated because of it.

Sorry talloola.............I don't know what a 'bag skate' is.............could you explain?

What do you think about the 'poll question' today, talloola.........don't pay attention to the hosts names, so don't know who gave that big spiel on Ryan just now............what do you think?

oh sorry, i've been at the store. poll question, are you worried about canucks now, my answer was yes.
they are taking too long to settle down and get on a bit of a roll

don't know about the ryan spiel

a couple of explanations of a bag skate.
1), skated so hard they need to 'throw up' in a bag right after its finished.

2) pucks are not brought out of the bag at all, just skating, skating, skating.

don't know which one is the real explanation, I would imagine the first one,
probably both apply, don't need any pucks when you are told to skate, skate, skate.

I don't know why many have to compare the presidents cup with the stanley cup. they have nothing to do with
each other, each is won for very different accomplishments.
It is extremely hard to win the presidents cup, to be on top after the schedule is complete is quite an
accomplishment, and any team should be proud of themselves for winning it.
Stanley cup playoffs are a brand new mini season, only 16 teams with eliminations after each round, till
one team wins the stanley cup, another great accomplishment.

both victories are great, and only about 1/3 of the teams who win the league trophy go on to win the
play off trophy.

there is much importance to winning the presidents cup, and only those who really don't connect to the
actual complete trip thru the season consider it unimportant. I heard many people say when 'this' season
started that this is really boring because the playoffs are so far away, and they have to wait all that
time again before hockey is interesting to them. so, go away and wait, and do something else, and all
of us who actually 'love' and take a deep interest in the 'whole' league will stay with it for 80 games
and applaud the winner, then we will go on to enjoy the playoffs.

hockey is a wonderful sport, I have had a deep interest in it since I was about 10 years old, the
winter wouldn't be fun for me without the NHL, and also other leagues as well.
my husband played for years, then coached our kids for years, with my help and others, our kids now
know hockey inside out, as well as their kids, what could be better.

i'm going to victoria on the 29th and while there will take in a 'major junior' game between the victoria
royals and the kamloops blazers, love it.

The only reason I even brought it up was because I'm getting so sick of our "friend" continuously bad mouthing the Canucks and then to try to support his argument had to down play the President's Trophy...................................anyway Talloola WE know where it's at and he don't.

jlm, that guy only posts to annoy people, so don't buy in. he doesn't know what he's talking about, he
just talks to hear himself and watch how others react.

just be thankful you, or any of us aren't related to him and have to deal with him in real life, eg.
your brother in law, or mine, etc., that is someone else's headache, and thankfully not ours.

just like ge***, the other resident pest, they think up things to say that they think will annoy others,
but nothing constructive or positive that would nurture the forum.

Put up or shut up.

the province paper gave me the info.

And I provided the link to the Province paper. Again, you are welcome.

I'm not bad mouthing the Canucks. I'm questioning the intelligence of their fans. There is a big difference.

I don't understand people like you, your whole life is on the negative side, I don't
live there, and don't want to.

LOL, you equate making fun of your lack of hockey knowledge with having a whole life on the negative side. Clearly you have a massive ego.

In case any of you didn't know:

Presidents' Trophy

An annual award to the club finishing the regular season with the best overall record. The winner receives $350,000, to be split between the team and its players.......So it does mean something to the team winning it.

The bottom line is the Canucks are the current holder of the President's Trophy, which is the most prestigous trophy as they had to beat 29 teams to get it, Stanley Cup winner only has to beat 4 teams!

We are currently waiting for JLM to provide the name of one NHLer that thinks the Presidents trophy is more prestigious than the Stanley Cup. I would be satisfied with the name of anybody that has ever played in the NHL.

Being loyal to sport teams isn't about intellect, but more about emotion. In some aspects of life it's quite alright to let emotions take over from intellect, it's like pie after the main course. Nothing wrong with deriving some harmless fun!

Sorry JLM, it isn't about loyalty or emotion either and given the response from the Nucks fans, it isn't much fun either. I have no issue with Nucks fans loving their team. It's about hockey knowledge. Still waiting for a name BTW

does this guy have a team to support or is he just sitting in some sanitarium somewhere in a straitjacket, typing with his teeth.

All the more reason why he should shut up, I suspect HIS team is lower in the standings than the Canucks. With his vast knowledge of hockey he should be writing an encyclopedia.
