I think we all succumb to propaganda on both sides of the issue. The business
community are big bad and greedy, they care only about profit and that is that.
Truth is most people including some demonstrating, have their retirement funds
in companies that are trading on the markets. The people who have investments
are hoping the companies do well so they have money to retire on.
Contrast that with the slogans that get handed down, professional protesters, or
the welfare bums, or the anarchist radicals. and a host of other handles. Where
is the truth in all of this. Carefully hidden and out of sight for the most part.
The fact is many people protesting are social democrats and people on the left, there
are also thousands across the country who are conservatives, and liberals some are
well off, some are unemployed and some have no political affiliation at all they are
just fed up. And yes, there are some anarchists and some so called professional
protesters. Many are the people we recently championed, as the defenders of the
environmental cause. They will soon be championed for this cause too and it seems
to continue. Oh it will change its appearance and become more mainstream over
time, but it will gain ground as the economies of the world worsen as they will.
Ont the other side of the coin, the business community is getting pounded for the
things it really can't control and some of the protesters demand. The problem is not
with the companies, it is the problem of the stock market traders themselves, and the
day traders who drive prices up and down. Those who want retirement funds want
to maximize the markets, they also want the companies to be responsible.
Here is my opinion as to how it should work. We must restructure companies to
bring bonuses in line with reality, and we must ensure efficiency in management and
production. There must be regulations to demand honesty and police it and to
ensure ethics. it is sad but left to their own devices ethics and honesty get left at the
side of the road. As for the protesters they have to look themselves in the mirror
and admit they want profit.
I am sick to death of paying for the abuses of business and not getting the piece of
the pie ordinary folks are entitled to, I am not against profit or investment I just believe
companies and investment firms and investors must be responsible to the communities
they operate in. It is called mutual respect and honest business ethics and involvement
If those things happened there would be no need for professional protesters or angry
citizens
