WASHINGTON -- An ardent opponent of the federal stimulus plan showed up Monday in Winnetka, Ill., to smile and cut the ribbon at a ceremony unveiling a local project funded by that very stimulus.
"Originally built in the 1940s, the [train] station not only got a facelift but three heated platform warming shelters, two new elevators and a new pedestrian bridge to allow commuters to wait in the station and then quickly cross over the tracks to the Chicago-bound platform," Winnetka-Glencoe Patch reported Tuesday morning.

The stimulus was opposed by every House Republican and all but three Senate Republicans, yet Dold is just one of scores of Republicans who've celebrated funding at home while opposing it in Washington. Dold was not in Congress when the ARRA was passed, but told Patch in 2010 during his campaign that he would have opposed it.

Republican politics certainly are. Rick Perry has been battered by his fellow Republicans during their debates over this issue. When the general elections campaigning starts its going to get even messier for him and others who took the money they voted against.

Reminds me of the Obama vs Clinton Campaign. They do not get more messier than that.

The difference is the Republicans were running on the concept of virtue and
principles. They don't have any principles, or they wouldn't be cutting ribbons
opening new facilities when the opposed the funding in the first place.
The Republicans have hurt the image of American and done themselves a
great disservice. They put themselves and their sound bites ahead of the
American people and there is a price to be paid for that. They were perhaps
right about some of their positions but they mishandled the whole situation.
Today people catch on more quickly and they are about to turn on the very
people they elected, mainly the flakes called the tea party. This is not a grass
roots movement it is a manipulative group heavily financed by some very
heavy special interests that do not represent the betterment of American society.
