You are such... *bites tongue, HARD, as an afterthought*

Don't bite your tongue, karrie, say what you mean. Honesty beats political correctness every time. I know that from personal experience when politically correct mods banned me.

You are safe.

Perhaps he is or perhaps he isnt, but there is an observation in there that is somewhat acurate. Airport security is definitely more ethnic than the actual ethnic ratios in Canada.
v

I live in Alberta, where the men in my life have had to deal first hand with terrorism.... all at the hands of white religious males.... I could give two ****s what the ethnic ratios are... it's the comment that they are more likely to be terrorists than YJ is.

And too that, i will agree with you, karrie. I will bet that the airport security is thecream of the crop when it comes to b[eing lawful and trustworthy. They recieved extensive screening before they are hired.

It has nothing to do with political correctness, and everything to do with not sinking to levels I find revolting.

Would have been nice, karrie, if you had answered me personally, rather than the way you did.

So, let's see: I am a Canadian Citizen of Hungarian descent. Are implying that I am more likely to be terrorist than the Arabs and other Muslims employed at airports? Can you point to just ONE terrorist of background similar to mine?

Or are just trying to show what political correctness run amok is?

You were there when they were stringing up Jews. Why should we trust you?

Ever think maybe that Sikh guy is 3rd or 4th generation Canadian?

There were Middle Eastern galore sod-busting 115 years ago while you were still an egg.

That Arab or Chinamen that runs the cornerstore may be the great grandson of a CPR labourer.

Here is one for ya....Australian crack dealers in Whistler. Get busy on them.

I did answer you directly. I also answered cranky's post directly. Don't try to dictate who I do and don't post to. Worry about policing your own posts, not anyone else's.

As for your question.... Weibo Ludwig. If you'd actually read my post.... I live in Alberta, where the men in my life have had to deal, directly, with terrorism at the hands of a white male. You're not special YJ. You're not from some section of humanity that is immune to harbouring criminals.

OK, point by point:

When they were stringing up Jews I was six years old. At the same time Canada turned away ships loaded with Jews who sought refuge. You were (probably) just as young as I was then, so, using your logic, why should anyone trust you?

Unlike you, I HEAR not just see. When the person has an accent that one can cut with a knife and speaks with the grammar of a three year old, somehow I manage to come to the conclusion that that person is NOT a 3rd or 4th generation Canadian.

The middle easterners who broke sod 115 years ago more than likely provided for their offsprings so that they don't have to fill low-level jobs like airport security.

Only a racist would refer to a fellow Canadian as a 'Chinaman'. No more need to be said about that.

Not surprised that you know of Australian crack dealers. Your posts clearly indicate that you are a frequent user. I don't even smoke.

By now I know that no matter what I say you will feel it your obligation to oppose and harass me. So, be my guest, or what I would really like to see, my GHOST.

They've targeted wells, they've shot at trucks, they've bombed pipelines.... I don't know a single man in my family who hasn't been put in harms way by that son of a *****

Hey I've had that twice. First you hear the ping as the bullet hits the rack or spool then you hear the crack of the rifle. Makes for a ****ty day hiding until the RCMP plane starts to circle.

So, karrie, show any and I mean ANY proof that this Weibo Ludwig has any more connection to Hungary and Hungarians, born here, or old or recent immigrants, than YOU do.

To be sure, there are people of Hungarian descent who are or have been on the wrong side of the law. I never claimed that my 'section of humanity is immune' to crime. But your attempt to call a low life like this Weibo Ludwig to Hungarian connections was a low blow and cheap shot that I would have expected from anyone but you.

The one location hubby was on it was repeated shots into a nitrogen tanker. Clear and targeted.

I merely returned your lob at all those 'turban wearing' security personnel.

They are no more likely to be terrorists than you or I.

By being willfully ignorant.

I'm sorry YukonJack, but in terms of being a danger to Canadians, Wiebo Ludwig and his family/followers have probably endangered more Canadians through their actions than most terror groups from all over the world. I was there and saw what he did first hand in the '90s when I worked for Alberta Energy Company in Grande Prairie. He got a lot gentler treatment from the press and the legal system than he deserved. Even if he had nothing to do with the incidents that have occurred since his release from prison, he was a danger to more people than most want to contemplate, and not just oilfield workers but farmers and anyone who had any reason to be anywhere near any of the locations he attacked.

Its a little ironic his name shows up in such a roundabout fashion on a thread that was originally about the oilsands but I guess its more of the same old public lack of knowledge on what goes on and how the energy industry is regulated, coupled with some glaringly publuic deficiencies in how the industry is governed.

There are a lot of regulations that are already in place for the industry in Alberta, more than in most parts of the world, but industry being what it is, there will always be loopholes and things that fall between the cracks that private companies don't want to spend too much money on addressing properly until/unless they have to. I do think the Alberta gov't needs to put more science behind a lot of its regulations and review processes, like the U of L prof in the original article posted, but I don't think there will be vast, sweeping changes like many do, because there are a lot of measures in place. Some may be tightened and some new rules implemented but not many.

So in conclusion, since terrorists do not pose a threat to the oil sands, we should definitely hold our government more responsible for their dirty deeds.

We already hold our government and the industry to really high degree of responsibility. I fail to see what one more body of bureaucrats will do to solve the issue. It's just another example of trying to 'buy' a healthy environment. It won't do a damn thing, except waste a lot of money.
