This may be off subject a little but I notice the top three threads are to do with Obama. Shouldn't we be focussing more on Canadian stuff? I would have no problem with one thread (combine the three) on Obama as there is considerable interest there but it shouldn't monopolizing the forum.

Of course, no refutation of the fact the recession ended in June 2009. I couldn't help notice that.

Maybe we aren't active enough as a Nation to have 3 threads running at the same time. The rabbit hole will claim all 3 once the tabloids come out today.

So, DaSleeper, you're not going to try to refute the end date of the U.S. recession? Instead, we're changing the subject?

The time period the U.S. is in right is in economic recovery, using the time-tested method of defining "recession" and "expansion" that U.S. economists have always used. Government budgets don't normally apply, and unemployment rates are gradually declining. So yes, recovery.

There you go....with the coolaid served by the liberal press.....but they might recover if Congress is able to slow down Obama's spending spree and it might recover even more if they manage to get a Republican Senate...

So, you're not refuting the fact the U.S. is in recovery, as defined by the time-tested economic models? And you're not refuting the fact unemployment rates are declining?

What Im saying is that it took a full year From Jan 2010 to Jan 2011 for unemployement to drop from10% to 9.5% with everything controled by the democrats and only five months with the purse strings controled by the Republicans to drop to 9%....and it went up from 7.7% to 10.2% in the first year of Obama's reign.

And the recession ended in '09 with unemployement going up??? more koolaid please...

Yep. The recession ended in June 2009. It's common knowledge among economists that employment is the lagging factor in economic trends. It took unemployment rates a long time to spike even though the recession began in December 2007, and it likewise took the same rates a long tme to decline after the end of the recession.

It's almost Econ 101.

Obama wouldn't have a chance against the Coulter/Palin team (or is that Palin/Coulter). The dynamic duo would clean house (pun intended).

I heard that one of palin's aides has written a tell-all book that exposes her not-so-nice side. Palin? Who'da thunk. LOL!

Governors Chris Christie of New Jersey and Rick Perry of Texas, along with former Governor Jeb Bush of Florida, are at the top of the wish list for Republicans unhappy with the current crop of contenders.
US Republicans -- still looking for a 2012 savior? - Yahoo! News

Go Jeb :lurk:

So what's happenin' with that Tea Party thingee down there, Ironsides??? Also, I have often wondered how you all can put up with election campaigns that run for over two years............ it must be tiring to the point of absolute apathy. It is one thing I appreciate about Canadian elections - short and sweet and lets get back to the hockey and football games! LOL!

If the economy doesn't improve the Bamster is toast.

It matters not who will sit in the White House next term, the U.S. economy is in trouble and there is very little that either party seems to be able to do about it. When you read that they are thinking of selling off gold and other assets - you gotta know that things are pretty shaky down there.

It just might be that those on the left will have the same surprise as they had with the Canadian election.....laugh while you can...;-)

At least they won't have to worry about kicking a separatist party of the House. LOL!

I don't think anybody can beat Obama at this point. The main reason the Republican Party is so divided into two camps.. libertarianism, and social conservatism.. which are fundamentally irreconcilable.. that all the moderates of broad appeal seem to have abandoned the race.

Obama will likely win a second term, but he'll likely lose Congress, maybe in both houses. A definite verdict from the electorate that they don't trust anybody.

We're seeing the same problem begin to flourish up here as well.

First of all I don't see Obama being thrown out in 2012 and any Republican who wants to be
President is likely not going there until the term limit is up. So many people keep talking about
the Democrats being on the left, what a joke. There is no left in America, there is only what I
call reasonable right (Obama) and the real right of center, (Romney) and the whack jobs on the
right, (Paul, Palen, the Donald who is no longer running and the Tea baggers who are nuts)
If any of those people get elected the Country is going to completely fall apart in record time.
I don't think even Jeb Bush wants to run because the time for the Tea Party Movement, has to
crest and the Republicans are viewed with respect again. The shrill voices of the more extreme
right are going to wear thin pretty quick, and to be associated with them in the long term will be
a draw back and not an asset.
I agree barring a miracle Obama will serve two terms as President.
