Because they are a government official and they are not voicing an opinion, they are telling financial backers that they will actively work to end abortions in Canada. So it becomes an issue. Not so much desperation as it is stopping the old puritan temperance freaks from entrenching their religious interpretations on the rest of us.

Except this person isn't a 'government official', he's a backbencher MP, MP's do deviate from their respective parties talking points once in a while.

Ah the view from the fence. How is the air up there mon frere?

It's great, in fact it is fanaticism free.

No, it is actually good that this gets revisited on a regular basis and especially by government officials. Abortion should always have an eye of scrutiny over it. It is also healthy that a government official can have a differing opinion on any subject. That is what healthy democracy breeds. What the Liberal Party of Canada want is for everyone to shut up on this political holy grail.

That's not democracy, nor free speech, that is state run totalitarianism.

Prime Minister Harper has been pretty clear that he will not be re-visiting the abortion issue. If anything this red herring will just feed the usual fear-mongering rhetoric spread by the Libs because they are out of ideas and running out of time.

That is true.

Abortion is a fence sitting position.

Anyone who thinks a woman who has been raped should have to carry that child is wrong and anyone who thinks abortion is a form of birth control is wrong.

yep, its rude to say "congratulations, I hear you are having a fetus" and its rude to say " a woman has the right to kill their own baby"

Yes that is exactly my opinion.

How trollish of you. I'd call you something worse, but you would cry again and run away, then my post might get clipped. Again.

Carry on, you're obviously out of any legitimate argument.

However, having a rape child isnt all that uncommon in history. I agree that it places an incredible amount of cruelty on the mother's emotions.

However, what if the woman was raised from day one to believe that a child's life is precious regardless of the rape? I think many more women could have the child without the perception of cruelty.

Ohh, so all the men in the country should have a vote on what a woman does with her body?

as a man, I have the right to do whatever I want with my body, but once there is a child in the picture, the courts rule in favor of the child. If you want to give women the right to abort or keep the child, then you have no business forcing me to support the child if I don't want the child.

Yeah, we need our youngsters to have strong christian upbringings so they respect the sanctity of life and whatnot, seeing as Christianity has such a good record on that.

If children were raised to think for them selves, we'd probably have a whole lot less people like your self trying to jam their beliefs down peoples throats.

Ok bud, keep on trucking.

Also, if you neglected to pay your support, that would make you a deadbeat and certainly not a man.

wow, I just dont buy into this crap about how a child can ruin a person's life. This is 2010 not 1970, if you have a child, you can still go to school, you can still get a good paying job, its actually socially acceptable enough that it doesn't ruin your chances of finding a good spouse in the future.

yep, double standard there. If the father wants the child, the woman still has the right to abort. If the father doesn't want the child, the woman can keep the child ( with a built in pay check)
