How is "as it happened" preferential treatment?
Are you not alluding to "it's in the past. Leave it there"?

Dija know Bob Layton, Jack's father was a Lib-come-PC and a cabinet minister in Mulroney's regime?

Dija know Harper was a member of Young Liberals - until he was offended by Trudeau's NEP?

They all have skeletons in their closets - just don't rattle the bones....
I'm not talking about a connect the dots game, this is a direct act, by Layton himself. The guy campaigning on the premise he's all about the little guy.

How was he helping the little guy, when he was taking up a space in subsidised housing, when he and Olivia were collecting fat gov't pay cheques?

He, like all politicians today, is in it for the ego.

What the little guy(joe &jane lunchbucket) want is responsible government and relief from ever raising taxes from all levels of government.

Thats me and i want to know which of the lesser two evils will effectively do that. Unless i get a native status card , i want a responsible government!!!!!
Status cards don't change a thing Johnny.

I have one, I pay taxes.

I want responsible gov't too!

The average taxpayer gets very little return from social programs and is not even eligible for most of them but carries the brunt of the cost. The poor pay no taxes and the rich can for the most part afford the huge amounts they pay even if they don't like it.

Then why do all these natives i work with tell me they dont pay taxes on items they purchase, and get a **** load more money back on income tax returns? Are they just messing with me?

They live on the rez? Or work for a band based business? if they live off rez and work for any other company they pay income tax just like you. They can however do their purchasing on rez and save a bunch of tax money.

The income tax thing I can't answer. My Bro-in-Law (Native) pays more in taxes yearly
than I make (gross) every year. I believe that income earned on a reserve might be
non-taxable income....but income earned off of reserve land is taxable.

Natives pay no taxes on items purchased on Reserve, at least out here anyway. Off the
Reservation....they pay what everyone else does.

If I was "alluding" to anything, I would out and say it.

Subsidized housing needs market rate tenants (30% I think it is in Sudbury Housing) to cover some costs.

1, They can only legally be exempt from taxation, if under treaty, living on and working within a set distance of their home treaty area.

2, The huge tax refund, is made up of taxes they have had to pay, being refunded.

Are they just messing with me?
No, they're either living and working within their treaty area, or they're being unethical.

There is a reason mega stores such as BassPro, make tax exempt sales, go to customer service.

1, No cashier needs to deal with some unruly spoiled "injun", that demands their status card be taken at face value.
2, Customer service, asks to see other details, such as a drivers license and matches it to treaty zones.

I live and work off the res Johnny. I pay income tax, property tax, and HST. Because I'm ethical. I'm sure I can skirt the system. I choose not to.

They weren't paying ,market rate, hence the uproar.

Mr. Bear can explain the ins and outs better than I but if you want to buy a new car you make the rust pimp bring it to the rez to sign the papers and presto! loose the tax. There are some other goodies as well. Like free education and medical.

You're right on all accounts.

The gov't caught on to the car thing, hence the changes to how cars were sold, transferred and so on, in Ontario.

The "Free Education" thing is a weird one too. Only so much $$$ to go around for that
per Band, & it sounds like only (usually) those that are Family (or tied in as Butt-Buddies)
to whomever is in power get that perk. The others scramble for whatever burseries and
such they can find and pay outright (or loans, etc...) for the balance.

This is undoubtedly true. In more ethical climbs, there is a grant system. In which one must prove that they are deserving of a grant from council.

I know that many statice native have a tax card to not pay the taxes on items they purchase! I had a freind that had a close native freind that used the card to not pay taxes on a $6000.00 hottub so they can avoid paying taxes off the reserve!

Ya, it's unethical and illegal.

I didn't even use my status card when I was buying smokes and selling them, so I could save my house and stay off EI.

...and they had the Hot-Tub delivered to a Reserve to avoid the taxes? Delivered, at
least on paper, claiming it was delivered to a Reservation? Unethical, but do-able...

I knew of furnature stores (back in the day) that would deliver furniture (via a stop in the
local casino's parking lot to have documents signed that it was delivered onto Reserve
land) from the store, with a bit of a detour, and then continue onto someones home, to
dodge the taxes.

Considering Harper ran on transparency, I don't think I'd trust Harper's word on anything.
If he tried that, I'd LOL so hard I'd wet myself!

Like I said, all politicians are crap, full stop. So lets not pretend anyone of them is better then any other.
