I sometimes wonder how well some of us might have done landing on the beaches of Europe.
If I were against our participation knowing and having never been tested with defending our way
of life I would not be quick to criticize the efforts of others

I don't see anyone criticizing the efforts of others. The question here is the appropriate way to show respect to the British and Chinese veterans of the Opium Wars. I doubt the British veterans of the Opium Wars of even their descendents would look too kindly to such a snub when so well aware of the nature of that war. It's certainly not a shining light on Britain.

And now we and the Brits are fighting another Opium War in Afghanistan.
