Do people in high places tend to rationalize bad behaviour? No, for two reasons. One, the statement implies that criminal behaviour or morally corrupt behaviour is the sole realm of the muckity mucks. And two, it implies that the vast majority of those at the top behave badly. I don't think either one is true. But, since we usually put those people where they are, we sure do like to hold onto the bad tales instead of the good.

Oh Oh, you're getting soft on this miscreants. They are in elevated positions because they are expected to know better.

Really? See, since I don't truly know, and never see face to face, these people, I have no expectation of how they will behave. The people I truly expect to be able to trust (and even then I am slow to trust), fall into much more 'lowly' categories. Teachers, bus drivers, contractors, etc. The foundations of society, not the pinnacles of it, are where I would be upset to see honour and trust thrown out the window without a second thought. But, perhaps that's simply because that's where I live and function, and not in the ivory towers.

Now you are making sense, I tend to trust the "lowly" categories more too and that is the reason I question the remuneration and responsibility delegated to the "upper echlons".
