Depending on where you are driving in from and where you will mostly be hanging out in the city-Glowing Embers is West of Town, has the usual RV site amenities and avoids alot of Traffic hassle if you have a big rig to haul through.
If you are mostly "Down Town" (and unless you are there for medical reasons there is really nothing down town-last time we were there the pan handlers were quite aggressive) then Rainbow Valley is closer.

I am not sure if I'd camp in the City.. kinda noisy.
Snow Valley in South West Edmonton. It's off the White Mud FWY.
Actually I am not sure what you find attractive about the city centre. There really is very little that is special there. Rainbow Valley is, however, only 5 minutes from Southgate Mall and 10 minutes in the other direction to WEM and about 10 minutes from the big box stores of South Edmonton Common. Not sure if that helps. If you are from Calgary I cannot imagine coming to Edmonton just to shop. You might find Googling "Edmonton Alberta Campgrounds" useful.
