If it were legalized, that sort of thing wouldn't happen. Like pot, it would eliminate the criminal element that prey on young girls. And if a client should request the services of under aged hookers, they could be reported and tagged (chip implant?) for future reference.

The criminal element will always be there, as it often involves more vulnerable segments of society.

Quite so, it is legal in most European countries, it works quite well there. In Germany prostitutes even pay taxes, they are unionized. When it comes to prostitution, USA's puritanical attitude has rubbed off Canadians.

I'm no feminist mind you, but I think it has to do with the exploitation of women (many prostitutes have no other means of income or are drug addicts, etc., and some have even been lured to drugs specifically for that purpose by having been given the drugs for free initially so as to hook them).

Then we have harassment. Once a neighbourhood is known for prostitution, it attracts the wrong kind of man making passes at any innocent woman passing by.

Then we have HIV which costs much money, and divorces which also cost society money since many divorces end in emotional breakdowns, job losses, children suffering academically which will have a long-term impact in the job market and so the economy, etc.

The costs of prostitution to society are no greater than the costs of adultery in general, but the cost of either is extremely high to society.

Personally, I'd support a fine for adultery, which would double with each repeat offense, and by adultery I don't mean only involving a married person, but even two unmarried people.

All these problems are because prostitution is illegal. Make it legal, give it official recognition, make them pay taxes, let them feel that they are responsible, contributing citizens (as happens in Europe) and most of the problems will disappear).

Incidentally, I don't think most feminists are opposed to prostitution. I consider myself a feminist.

Why is everything being added to the same post? I post a different post, but it gets added to the same post.

Forum certainly seems to be screwed up. Mods, are you paying attention?

It's more accurately an Arabic name, and as here names are usually chosen by parents and so do not necessarily reflect the child's beliefs. Add to that that may Muslim names are attributes of God or ames of Biblical Prophets too, and so will sometimes ovrlap with Christian names too. The article did specify she was Muslim, but had it not been for that, it would have been pure speculation. Let's not forget Lebanon is the most Christianized Arab state.

Sure some of the names are same for Christians and Muslims, but they have different forms (Yusuf/Joseph, Ibrahim/Abraham, Dowd/David etc.). No self respecting Muslim parent is going to name his son David or Joseph.

And name may not reflect child’s beliefs, but it certainly reflects parents’. That is why I said, it does not matter if she is a practicing Muslim or not, it is a Muslim name. I did not read the article, but I could tell that she was a Muslim, just from her name.

The criminal element will always be there, as it often involves more vulnerable segments of society.

No more than it is present among strippers, porn movie actresses etc. One doesn't see a lot of criminal element there. Whenever something is illegal, criminal element (pimps, organized crime etc.) will inevitably move in.

I'm surprised no one else discussed the synchro fotos. But as you can see, some of those moves border on rated X. Therefore, pole dancing is the wholesome activity we all said it is. ;)

they wouldn't load gopher. But, I see the girls doing synchro every saturday at the facility my kids attend... their suits enough leave less to the imagination than many strippers, let alone getting into the moves they execute.

I tell you - if some pole dancer did some of the things synchro swimmers do in the water the local Pure Prairie League would shut the place down!
