Only a few saw them? Surely you jest? By now it is in the news all over the country, most fo the country is aware of it by now.

But really, was it so difficult to go to somebody's house or somebody's hotel room and smoke and booze up to ones' heart's content? Why didn't the coach or somebody else rent a room for them to celebrate?

they had their dressing room to go into, and they failed
to do that, their mistake.
I've been to so many hockey tournaments over the years I've
lots count long ago.
Women's and Men's hockey, and have never had any celebrations on the ice, or on players benches, always in
the dressing room, with the door closed.
I'm referring to after game celebrations, when the refreshments come out.

who ever said take the medals away should apologize themselves for being such a stuck up.

I'm say'n the whole thing is overblown & ridiculous. I'm not even sure how this
is even a news story beyond a "Good on ya' all!!!" for the Canadian Woman's
Hockey Team.

It would take a man of DurkaDurka's caliber to even describe the celebration
by the Snowboarders...and we're not hearing anything about that, so...it's a
total non-issue.

I guess you haven't watched Stanley Cup playoffw where the winner drank champagne from the cup center ice...

Of course you are correct, Ron... Much ado about nothing.

I am so proud of the Women's Hockey team's achievement however their post-game booz-up on the ice has left a very dark mark on an otherwise flawless performance.
There is no disputing that they earned the gold. I am just so dishearted about how they took their gold medals and such a prestigious hard-earned win "the Canadian way" then dragged it through the mud to the corner bar! Whatever where they thinking?!?!? Where was the coach/assistant coaches/ANYBODY!!!!!!
Mark my words, this will NOT just go away. This is a stigma that many of the ensuing teams (especially the upcoming mean's team) will bear the brunt of, for years!
.....soooo sooo sad.
As a side bar - as if this isn't bad enough - one of the girls is under-age. .....wonderful!

unreal. When you can go fetch a gold medal for Canada, you're welcome to exercise whatever sense of propriety you want when you celebrate (probably alone). When our athletes step into the spotlight to represent us, it doesn't give us the right to shred them from whatever angle we can get a hold of. Win or lose, they deserve our respect - it takes a hell of a lot more gumption just to make it to the Olys than it does to bash someone else's achievements anonymously on the internet. Our gals did a great job for us. Shut up and celebrate with us, or get the hell outta the way.

They don't smoke, Joey. They passed around a ceremonial cigar and had a puff. No lessen on the evils of smoking needed. Again, this is much ado about nothing.

You may be right Mowich, all I heard was that some of them were smoking cigars. All the same, I don’t think this sets a good example for teenage girls, these athletes are role models for teenage girls.

If they had to have something ceremonial, why not pass around a bottle of wine?

Sorry I can't agree with that line of reasoning. The next step would be that we all have to take responsibility for the image we may convey to some air head. Nah that won't fly.

That is nonsense, JLM. Athletes are in a special position. Rightly or wrongly they are the role models.

If you smoke, you don’t serve as role a model to anybody (except may be to your kids and your grandkids). So other than your immediate family, nobody would really care if you smoked or not.

If teenagers see athletes smoking that may well induce them to take up smoking. That is why athletes must be held to higher standards than anybody else (and not to lower standards as many people do).

Will you puh....lease check your facts before you start typing. The arena was CLOSED to the public. Get it?

This was an achievement of monumental proportions for our ladies - they just won their 3rd Olympic Championship. Party on ladies and I will raise on in your honor.

WAY TO GO CANADIAN WOMEN'S HOCKEY TEAM. YOU ARE GOLD!

:canada::canada:

Area was closed to the public? Then how did the news get out? Obviously it was not closed enough (like somebody's house or a hotel room).

Thats the point. It was a private party. The media just blows everything out of proportion. Its too bad there is always someone who is going to say something negative about one achievement or another.

It was not private enough Risus, if the media was able to get hold of it. These athletes must realize that they are public figures now, they are celebrities and they must act accordingly, in a responsible fashion.

These athletes have got a tremendous boost to their careers. Money, fame, glory etc. But the flip side is that they are role models to millions of teenagers, and they must not behave in a manner which will set a bad example to them.
