Hmm, according to a Gallup poll from June 1, 2009, the Republican base, is heavily white, conservative (go figure ehh?) and religious.
PRINCETON, NJ -- More than 6 in 10 Republicans today are white conservatives, while most of the rest are whites with other ideological leanings; only 11% of Republicans are Hispanics, or are blacks or members of other races. By contrast, only 12% of Democrats are white conservatives, while about half are white moderates or liberals and a third are nonwhite.

The Teabaggers are a group that I would call a counter-culture movement to the Obama administration. There were no Teabaggers when the first stimulus bills were passed, and signed into law by Bush. Many of the Teabaggers seem to be avid Glenn Beck fans. How is that relevant? Beck has been very vocal about Obama being racially motivated, and that seems to resonate loudest with people who perceive that Obama represents a movement of reverse racism.
The Teabaggers have lashed back at GOP Senators like Lindsey Graham who proclaimed that the GOP were "not going to be a party of angry white guys". They have lashed back at this man, who has a 90% conservative record of voting in the house!
Why are they predominantly white? The Republican party appears to be made up of more white conservatives than the Independents or Democrats. The media darlings that foster this movement are using the kind of rhetoric that attracts white conservatives. I think it's pretty clear why...
