I don't think so. I think it's just a matter of Ottawa giving up some of its power. But that'll never happen, I don't think. So things will stay unfair and ON&QC will have more say over what goes on in BC, AB, NS, NB, etc. that the people of the ROC do.

Constitutionally, and historically...Ottawa was intended to be the great power, able on a whim to disallow provincial legislation.......and the recipient of all residual powers. The devolution of power to the provinces is, in reality, at best not in line with the original design of the nation, and at worst, is unconstitutional.

Yeah, call me a kid because I don't think things are fair. Idiot.

First off - I am saying that you are ACTING like a kid because you don't seem to understand that "reality" and "what is the correct thing to do" does not, and has never, equalled to "fair". Also - just because you don't like something doesn't make it unfair.

As I pointed out in another thread things are NOT equal in Canada. For instance, my vote is not the same as someone from PEI and your vote is not the same as someone in Nunavut.
BC has a population of 4,435,000 and has 36 seats. That's about 124,000 people per seat
PEI has a population of about 140,000 and has 4 seats. That's about 35,000 people per seat.
Want to keep telling me that everyone's vote is equal? I think whoever developed the current system of representation made it pretty convoluted. Surely someone could convulute it further so that regions are equally represented.

You're right - the everyone's votes are NOT equal - nor have I said they are equal. I said they SHOULD be equal. I have also said is that to make things MORE unequal is not going to solve the problem. In a HoC that is SUPPOSED to be Rep. by Pop. the West will ALWAYS have a smaller voice than Ontario - until such time as the population of the West is higher than Ontario.

Your supposition rests on the assumption that once in the HoC - members vote according to the direction of the PROVINCE that they are from, which is not true. Members serve the party and THAT is the problem.

Now we’re getting somewhere!

I think that redistributing the Senate seats would make the Senate more in keeping with the vision of the Fathers of Confederation, anyway—it is supposed to a chamber of regional representation, and it was—but as provinces were added to the Confederation, it seems that the numbers became somewhat skewed against the ‘newcomers’.

It would work - up until the time people starting b*tching about how Manitoba has the same say as BC - and they together only have 1/2 the say of Ontario.

Provinces should have equal say - not regions. Manitoba is not the same as BC. Canada would need a massive overhaul of provincial boundaries in order to "spread the power."

I would agree.....but good luck changing the Senate.......opening the constitutional Pandora's Box is simply not a wise move.....

The Meech Lake and Charlottetown accords certainly left a bitter taste in everyone's mouths, and may have a lot to do with the sliding public interest in government and politics.

Somehow people will have to take an interest again before Constitutional changes can be politically expedient.

Why don't we elect 10 MPs from each province then draw names for another 2-300(much like jury duty) for a one year stint as an MP. It takes partisan politics out of it. You probably couldn't do worse than the trained seals we have now. The elected MP's (the ones that actually sought out the job) could work in cabinet and on committees. The average citizen would be more involved. The appointed members could vote electronically and never have to go to Ottawa. The PM can be chosen by the MP's like now.

There is an old saying: Even a stupid farmer can grow big potatoes.

OR:

Even a blind pig will find an acorn.

For once in his life Jack Layton can be proud of being a stupid farmer and/or a blind pig.
