If you have a couple extra coins knocking around in your pocket, you could consider a donation to Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s legal defense fund. The former Republican vice presidential candidate has about $500,000 in legal fees — partly due to investigations into efforts to fire an Alaska state trooper who’s her former-brother-in-law.

Also, a dozen new ethics complaints have been filed against Joan of Arc in the past few months. Hence the setting up of ‘Alaska Trust Fund’. They are asking for donations up to 150$ per person. Perhaps if GOP had not spent more than 150,000 $ on her wardrobe during the election, that money could now have gone to the trust fund.

They insist this is one of the “most restrictive and transparent legal funds in history,” and compare it to other recent funds — like those for both Clintons and former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens.

The difference is of course that Clintons had the entire might of the Republican Party hounding them for full eight years, not to mention an out of control partisan hack of a prosecutor, Kenneth Starr. Kenneth Starr had a bottomless purse to draw upon. He spent more than 100 million $ in his quest to get the Clintons and failed miserably. So I can understand why Clintons needed to set up the trust fund.

The attempt by Joan of Arc on the other hand, looks too much like raising money for her upcoming presidential bid.

The link is to Cafferty’s blog, which changes daily. Tomorrow the story probably won’t be there. So I will reproduce it here in a separate post.

Anyway, so the question is, would you donate to “Alaska Trust Fund’? Brother, can you spare a dime?

The former Republican vice presidential candidate has about $500,000 in legal fees — partly due to investigations into efforts to fire an Alaska state trooper who’s her former-brother-in-law.

Also, supporters say about a dozen new ethics complaints have been filed against Palin in the last four months. The ‘Alaska Fund Trust’ says on its website: “For Alaskans, the time has come to end the siege on our government by political tricksters. Enough is enough. With the help of reform-minded advocates from across our nation, we will stand up for what is right.”
They add that the fund will “reduce the incentive for mischief by Palin’s opponents” and turn back the tide of partisan and personal political attacks.
Donations will be limited to $150, and the fund won’t accept money from corporations, lobbyists, foreigners or state contractors. Supporters say the names and contribution amounts of all donors will be made public.
They insist this is one of the “most restrictive and transparent legal funds in history,” and compare it to other recent funds — like those for both Clintons and former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens.
Here’s my question to you: Would you be inclined to donate to Governor Sarah Palin’s legal defense fund?

Cliffy, Alaska Trust Fund is Palin's defense fund. She wants to raise money for her legal defense. The trust fund set up by her for that purpose is called Alaska Defense Fund.

Yes, I realize that. It was Cunnuck that lost me. It has been straightened out. Gosh, with all these people in high places needing legal aid, I hope the poor are taking notes.

"Brother, can you spare a dime?"

"Sorry, I don't give on the street. But here's a name card for the people I do give to. If you qualify, they might help you."

I didn’t realize you were responding to Cannuck’s post. Since I put him on ignore, I don’t see his posts. I thought my original post wasn’t clear to you.

About Joan of Arc needing legal aid, I don’t know how much of that is genuine, and how much of that is the fund raising for her upcoming presidential bid in 2012 (assuming she can transfer money from her legal defense fund to her presidential bid).

Politics make for strange bedfellows. I'm complete unpolitical, but I would still bed her if I could put duct tape on her mouth.

Hey, the rest of you; to whom do you give your money? Would she qualify for help from them do you think?

Maybe we could all post her name cards of the organizations we give to, and recommend she contact them?

I give a fair bit to UNICEF. Do you think she'll qualify for help?

I am not sure she would be interested in UNICEF money. You see, UNICEF passes around its boxes during Halloween trick or treating. According to religious right, Halloween is truly the festival of dark forces (religious right literally believes in the presence of Demons, Lucifer and other dark spirits).

I am not sure she would want anything to do with UNICEF. But she being a politician, one never knows. Money may be obtained by evil means (taking the box around during Halloween), but it may be sanctified by putting it to God’s use (by using it to elect Joan of Arc to presidency).

Let us just put that down as a maybe.

Well, my gut tells me UNICEF wouldn't give her any money either. From a PR standpoint, it might be difficult explaining to contributors how Palin's legal fund should take first seat over a child's basic literacy education, medical care, food, clothing and shelter in a developing country.
