Will The Draft Come With Mitt Romney’s Two Trillion Dollar Military Promise?

In the first American presidential debate Mitt Romney promised a two trillion dollar gift to the military so world regime change could continue because the American way is the best lifestyle people can live.

In war soldiers die and get injured where they cannot be effective soldiers and in a war the motivation to be a volunteer soldier decreases dramatically.

In order to sustain wars for the next four years forced conscription or the draft will have to become a reality again to make sure America’s military can be an effective fighting machine.

What do you think?

He'd spend the cash on drones, warships, tech and missiles.

There's no reason to have a big conventional army any more, other than to be the UN's police force

- CM ... Isn't it amusing and amazing to read such uninformed crapolla from someone who calls himself Liberalman and boasts a picture of Peter Waterhole, the Godfather of public debt in Canada, as his avatar?

- Yes, you are correct about the different kind of military needed these days with the emphasis on high tech weaponry rather than low tech boots on the ground.

- I should also add that the US draft was ended by a Republican president (Nixon around 1970), that no president from either party would commit political suicide by reinstituting the draft, and that the purpose of maintaining the US's military superiority is not so as to engage in more wars but to prevent or at least reduce the likelihood of more wars by what Ronald Reagan called peace through strength. Weakness is more provocative militarily than strength and it is instructive that every major war involving the US in the past 100 years has been initiated while the Democrats were in power. But Liberalman like his idol Peter Waterhole has contempt for the military, would like to weaken it even more and faster than Obama is doing in the US, thinks that a strong military (e.g. Switzerland) always means more wars and so is spreading left wing misinformation about Romney's military policy.

I would like to see a mandatory military stint as they have in South Korea and Israel, for the USA.

Mandatory Military Service Would Benefit the U.S.

Would you like to see your son, daughter, niece, nephew or teenage neighbor become hard-working, respectful, disciplined, honorable and prepared for life? Would you like to see crime, teenage pregnancy and substance abuse rates decline? No, this is not an advertisement for a magic pill; this is an argument for mandatory military service. more.

What's really amazing is that you don't hear the population at large b*tch and moan about entitlements and handouts in those nations (or some Euro nations) like you do in Canada and the States.

Right now all of the military branches have volunteer enlistee waiting lines. There aren't many decent paying jobs out there and with the benefits and living arrangements like they are it won't become a problem soon. It was mentioned early on in the start up of the Obama presidency but it became a non-issue as enlistees came forward. The new US Naval vessels are being designed to be operated with reduced crew sizing. The new Carriers will be staffed with less than 4,000 as compared the the 5,000+ they now require.

The only people I hear bitching and moaning about entitlements are rightwingers. Just what entitlements are you speaking of?

The standard, ideological rantings and ravings on developing a full-service nanny state wherein no one has to assume responsibility for themselves and those that are crazy enough to attempt to advance and succeed are punished and penalized for that style of atrocity

That is an invented fantasy state by rightwingers. They would rather the entire country pay twice as much for things like healthcare because rightwing politicians and their cronies put more money in their pockets. Public healthcare is cheaper, it has nothing to do with nanny state. It means not having a freeloader cronie state.

Keep it up and that two trillion dollars won't be worth the paper it's printed on. Where is the US going to get that money? Print it? Hello Weimar republic. Get out your wheelbarrow to carry your money.

Isn't having a bigger military than you need not part of a nanny state guaranteeing jobs to the unemployed?

Exactly who is doing the freeloading in your eyes?

Yep, but not necessarily a bad thing. They could be doing jobs that need doing!

Perhaps. but then why waste money training them for a job they're not likely to do and then put them to work doing something else? In that case, wouldn't a peace corps actually trained to do civilian work, whether natural disaster relief, etc. not make more sense and save money on military training for cilivian jobs?
