True and to that OP Picture... is that amount of money what was spent in one year alone or for the last decade up to 2012?
That'd be about the total world military budget for 2012. Of course, to say all of that was spent "on war" is another li. . . um, oversimplification.

And while the picture says that's all the money that would be needed to stop poverty, is that forever or for a specified time, like one year?
By my calculations, about half a week, assuming you could get it to the poor folk with zero overhead, administration, logistics, or distribution costs.

So you blow all that money, get people out of poverty, then the money runs out, these people are still in their same positions in life as before with no education, jobs, etc. and then poverty ensues once again.

It's a nice sentiment, but it's more complicated than that.
Einstein said you can't solve problems with thinking less complex than the thinking that created the problems.

look at all the money we've thrown at Africa...from that perspective there should be no poverty any more...yet daily it grows... money is not the problem...where it lands is a problem getting food to those who need, getting fresh water to those who need...getting medical supplies to those who need

Well said.

Ah. While that might solve hunger (but see the thread on the dead vegan kid), I'm pretty sure hunger isn't all there is to poverty. I always though water, shelter, clothing, and education counted too. And in countries with little or no infrastructure, infrastructure.

And let's not forget the water supplies, shelter, and infrastructure destroyed by war.

Sometimes ending poverty gives them the strength to start wars.

It did in Somalia.

And the LAND MINES!

Hey, that's an idea. The baby Spiderman dancing in a minefield'd be a hoot! Briefly.

Yes... landmines too. Nasty things they are.

Baby Spidey would not be affected by a landmine. Not with those baby spidey senses tingling.

Isn't "poverty" a relative term? My sister and neice were in Thailand some years back and they told me what we would consider poverty they would consider immense wealth. Poverty, I think will always be a term used for the lowest demographic as far as assets go.

If there was no poverty who the Hell would work? As soon as that happens the end of the human race is imminent!

If poverty was stopped what would the legions of social workers that feed off the system do? The only other job skill they have is welfare recipient.

Einstein was wrong. Often we cure a complex problem created by an engineer with a computer with a simple eyeballl measurement. TBF we have experience on our side while the engineer has to rely on a computer.

I don't know? My wife is a social worker. What would she do? What does she do now?

It must be. No income tax and GST/PST rebates which leaves municipal which in some provinces is refunded as rent rebates.
