It's been a tough four years for Carolyn Strom.
In 2016, the Prince Albert, Sask., nurse was found guilty of professional misconduct by the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association after a 2015 post she made on Facebook, criticizing the health care her grandfather received.
She was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and $25,000 to cover the cost of the tribunal.
"It's been a roller-coaster," said Strom. "It's been really stressful. I didn't ever imagine that it would go on this long."
On Tuesday, Strom will be at the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal to fight the association's decision, as well as a Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench decision that ruled against her last year.
The professional charges stemmed from a February 2015 Facebook post where Strom criticized the care her grandfather received while receiving palliative care at St. Joseph's Integrated Health Centre in the town of Macklin, Sask., about 225 kilometres west of Saskatoon.
"It is evident that not everyone is 'up to speed' on how to approach end of life care ... or how to help maintain an aging senior's dignity (among other things!)," read part of the Facebook post.
"To those who made Grandpa's last year's less than desirable, please do better next time!"
Some of the nurses in the hospital felt Strom's post was a personal attack, and complained. The SRNA ruled the post brought the nursing profession into disrepute and violated its social media policy.
(And so the union HOG Star Chamber swung into action to SILENCE an unhappy customer whose father apparently suffered in ways that a professional nurse does not approve of!! But of course WE the public are NOT PERMITTED to hear what allegedly went wrong!! Does Strom have a LEGIT COMPLAINT?? Union rules and LIE-beral privacy laws ensure SILENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Strom refused to drop the case and held to it as a matter of principle. She was ordered to write an essay explaining what she did wrong, and refused to do so.
She believes her case has had a chilling effect on other nurses speaking out across the province.
(Of course it chills!!! And it is NOT the first time LIE-berals and Hogs have used such bully tactics!! Some years back a former lawyer- then running for the New Brunswick legislature was CENSURED by the Law Society for bringing lawyers into ill repute by going on a radio show - during the election - and venting his frustration at the lax sentences that LIE-beral hug a thug judges were handing out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(The case against Kinsella fell apart once the truth came out- that our CBC/Communist Broadcasting Corp had MADE A MOVIE about a Kinsella book called Dance Me Outside and then- after the success of the movie - CBC MADE A TV SERIES based on a batch of Kinsella short stories about the fictional reserve!) (At the point where the native complainant admitted he had not actually read the books and was relying on the advice of “activists” - and THEN the complainant admitted that in the run up to the trial he HAD READ the books and remarked to the court that life on the fictional Ermineskin Reserve was MORE PLEASANT AND LOGICAL than life on a REAL RESERVE - at which point it was “case dismissed” so no more damaging comments could be presented!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
(Kinsella is a guy with a sharp sense of humour as any reader of his books will know - and the trial publicity goosed the sale of his books and he profited nicely and so chose to forego the pleasure of SUING the racists who had attacked him with LIE-beral legal aid/Kangaroo Court CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
"My fear is that things aren't getting reported. Things aren't changing," she said.
"People are afraid to to address concerns, and that's not helping anybody, especially the people with family members that are in hospital."
'Don't speak out'
In spring 2019, a family was distressed to discover their father had basically BLED TO DEATH at an Ontari-owe long term care facility - which then tried to COVER UP its systemic failures!! The old guy was quite unsteady on his feet and his medical charts WARNED nurses NOT to transfer the guy from bed to wheel chair ALONE!! Meaning TWO NURSES are required to balance the big guy safely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
(Yet such records as are available indicate that short handed staff frequently required a single nurse to move the guy!! Subsequently the family received a call that their father had fallen and cut himself and bled so heavily -for a LONG TIME - before staff noticed he was laying in a pool of blood - that he had been rushed to hospital to try to save his life- with the effort eventually FAILING- resulting in the death of the frail old guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
(The family was naturally outraged and contacted cops who started interrogating the nurses - and a PARTIAL explanation of what probably happened - eventually came out!! A LONE nurse - under pressure from senior supervisors probably moved the old guy alone- and of course he FELL - and cut his leg very badly on a piece of bed frame- and got picked up and shoved into bed and basically got FOR-GOTTEN in the rush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
(So the old guy lay there bleeding heavily for an unknown time till somebody went to check on him and got upset at the POOL OF BLOOD!! The blood loss was eventually judged as a contributing factor in his death!! But of course privacy laws and union SILENCE prevent us from knowing the truth !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
(And of course anybody who watches tv show W-5 knows that there is an epidemic of violence in those long term care facilities - with some patients murdered by other patients before hard pressed staff could intervene -and LIE-berals are working HARD to hush all this up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
The case generated public outrage, with many advocates speaking out on Strom's behalf.
"If what she said is deemed by the regulator to be somehow crossing a line, then I think we're all in pretty deep trouble," said Steven Lewis, a Saskatoon-based health-care policy analyst.
"They're essentially sending the message, 'Don't speak out on anything.'"
(IN other news- an Ontari-owe man - who has only a year or so to live - has been given an UGLY CHOICE by stingy LIE-berals!! The guy is currently in hospital and is refusing to go home to die quietly and not make trouble for LIE-berals!!!!!)
(He claims the home health care providers he has been offered are DANGEROUS to his health- citing situations where a stove was left on and started a fire- while the home care nurse slept -and situations where poorly equipped nurses either dropped him - with risk of broken bones or came close to doing so - while being transferred from bed to wheel chair or to shower or toilet etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
And he cites cases where he had to be brought to hospital to have his stomach pumped due to food poisoning brought on by careless food handling!!!!!!!!!!!!)
(So the guy feels SAFER and more comfortable in hospital and is refusing to go home!! And hospital staff have given him a choice: Either go home or let us EUTHANISE YOU -BECAUSE WE NEED THE BED - apparently for patients they figure they CAN SAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Several groups, including the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association and the Canadian Constitution Foundation, have received intervenor status in the case, testifying on Strom's behalf.
Lewis noted that Strom's comment did not single out any particular person, and was talking about the care her grandfather received in a facility hundreds of kilometres away, not her individual workplace.
"If the message is that you can't criticize anything about the health-care system then, among other things, the public is deprived of an independent voice from within the profession," he said.
"If we're seeing, as a blanket principle, that no person who works in health care should be able to say anything publicly in a general way about the quality of care, then I think society is in pretty big trouble."

However, the nurses association believes it's important that Strom be held to account.
In its court submission, the association said Strom should have taken any complaint through official channels and should never have talked about the situation in public.
(Ah- official channels- the place where legit complaints go to be strangled!!!!!!!!!)
"Even though she did not name names, a reasonable person who read the [Facebook] post could easily come to the conclusion that the majority of the small number of nurses who work at this institution are incompetent, lack compassion and don't care about their patients," read the submission.
"It is impossible for a person who works there to distance themselves from this stain."
(Uh huh - and too bad we will never know if staff should DESERVE to wear this stain!! LIE-berals are ALWAYS MORE INTERESTED IN IMAGE than in truth - thus there will be NO PUBLIC INQUIRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
