Although he's wrong when it comes to general practice, MDs do have very limited training when it comes to things like nutrition.

To obtain a naturopathic medical credential (ND) that qualifies the recipient to sit for licensing examination students must have the following:

Prerequisites including three years of pre-medical sciences at a University with a cumulative grade point average 3.00 on a four point scale. Prerequisite courses: biology, biochemistry, chemistry, organic chemistry, introductory psychology and humanities.
Successfully complete a 4-year-full time program in an accredited school of Naturopathic Medicine that includes more than 4,500 hours of classroom training and 1,500 hours of supervised clinical experience.
Pass NPLEX board exams that are written after the 2nd year and 4th year of study. NPLEX is the standard examination used by all licensing jurisdictions for Naturopathic doctors in North America.
Meet the Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits as required by the provincial regulatory boards on an ongoing basis.

Somehow this is more / superior to what MDs get?

Can you explain how?

TP, I think he was referring specifically to nutrition. MDs aren't given a lot of training about nutrition, after all, they are "GENERAL practioners, not specialists. They usually refer patients to critters called "nutritionists" for info on nutrition.
Naturopaths do take fairly extensive training in nutrition.

Doctor says, "You've got impacted bowel. Here take this laxative"
Naturopath says, "You've got impacted bowel. Drink more water & juice, less milk, and don't eat cheese for a while. Drink this".
Apple, orange. Reactive, preventative.

Can we tar all doctors or all naturalpaths with the same brush?

Naturopaths have much better training than so called doctors who mostly sell pills.

Some doctors "mostly sell pills"- the vast majority of the ones I've had DON'T, they are in fact knowledgable ethical people, whose main concern is the well being of their patients. I can't comment on naturopaths, having never been to one. Let's confine our opinions to our personal experiences and not try to perpetuate a bunch of myths.

That qualifies as the stupidest thing said on here.

No, I just know a lot more about healing than most people and I have not been brainwashed like you have by big pharma. I may be a little biased because my wife is a naturopath, trained in Germany in a school that was teaching naturopaths before Canada was even a country. They see a steady stream of people that have been to numerous doctors over the years with no results except a prescription list as long as your arm. Most of them can be cured. Part of it is that naturopaths will take the time to listen to a patient and look for the cause of the problem, not just provide a pill to mask the symptoms. There are plenty of natural remedies that grow locally that natives used long before white pill pushers got here. This is true all over the world. China has been a leader in natural medicine while in England they were still throwing rocks at each others castles.
True there are times when surgery is required and then a medical doctor is required. In most of Europe doctors and naturopaths work side by side, unlike North America where medical associations think they are in a turf war to protect their incomes.

What you say makes sense to me. I just took T.P. to task for generalizing.
