... there'd be fewer wars if there were more women leading countries.
Well, I dunno about that, the relatively few examples we have--like Margaret Thatcher, Indira Gandhi, Golda Meir, Eva Peron, Benazir Bhutto--don't inspire confidence that women in power are any less prone to violence than men. But I do think that any culture in the modern world that deliberately structures women out of the daily affairs of the nation is doomed. Men and women understand things differently, have different priorities and attitudes, even different values sometimes, and if we're going to make it as a species, we need to listen to everybody and think about what they say. A society that shuts down half the intelligence available to it doesn't deserve to survive.

"If women ruled the world there would be no wars but every 28 days there would be intense negotiations." I forget who said that.

"Women should run the world, men should be just transient breeding stock" - Randy Greger.

"Australia! Where men are men and sheep are nervous."

I think that's because politics is geared towards men in the first place. It's a rare woman that wants to step into shoes normally worn by men.
I agree about the benefits lost to people who don't accept women as being able to contribute more than cooking and babies. I think that's just displaying more stupidity than they claim women have.

Back to Africa. I read in this Saturday's Globe and Mail the Zambian economist Dambisa Moyo mentioned a web site called kiva.org where you can lend money to entrepreneurs in Africa or anywhere else in the world. And, get paid back.

The minimum is $25, it is a microloan site. Very cool.
