Since this alleged threat came right on the heels of Bush's little talk where he told us that many 9/11 type attacks had been thwarted by his "ever vigilant" administration and how he has kept everyone safe and so on, ......... I think the threat was probably phony. If it had been a real live threat, the perps would have been paraded in front of the public with photo ops all around. I don't say an attack is impossible, just that this one was bs.

I think it was BS too, Juan. I also think that making announcements like this for short-term political gain sets a dangerous precedent because a lot of people don't realise what the real threat is.

There is next to nothing keeping a terrorist from entering Mexico, then crossing into the US with migrants looking for work though. There is also next to nothing keeping them from entering along your coastlines. You cannot patrol all of your coastline all at once.

If the terrorists want in, they'll get in. If they want to blow something up, they will. These are people used to working under repressive regimes, including US-controlled puppet regimes.

You are correct Rev in that once they manage to enter Mexico, they would simply be able to enter the US alongside the illegal Mexican immigrants. However, the key here is geting into Mexico.

As for entering the US through the coastlines, they would require one hell of a boat to make it either across the Pacific or Atlantic Oceans. Even so, chances of being spotted by the US Coast Guard are almost certain (look at the Cuban Nationals who try and most don't make it to Florida before being stopped by the Coast Guard).

So all the drugs that are smuggled into your country are known about by the national guard? I guess that means that there are no drugs in the US.

The Cubans have few resources. The terrorists tend to be well-funded because you've pissed off so many people around the world.

That isn't exactly the hardest thing to do.

What the Mexicans are, is neccesary to the economy of the southern U.S. states. How many so-called illegal aliens are employed in American homes and businesses? You can't afford to seal that leaky border.

The US economy is such that many jobs, from bus-boys to maids to landscapers, could not be filled if it wasn't for illegal immigrants. Canada is heading the same direction.

That's the result of both tightened immigration regulations and the complete and utter disrespect that capitalism has for the workers.

It is also the same basic attitude that led to the blowback of terrorism.

Yes we could, Juan. A Solid wall would serve just fine. We have documented Mexicans who are legal immigrants, who filed the paperwork and waited on a list for their turn to immigate, and obtain their Green Cards. Why should the illegals be given preferential treatment over the law abiding Mexicans? Why should they be put ahead of the list? They should need to wait like everyone else before coming to the US. No one's above the law.

If a business hires an illegal who doesn't have a social security card, the business is likely to be charged. The illegal immigrant will simply be deported.

So in summing up, many Mexicans come here legally with the proper paperwork. As an example, I know for a fact that many of the blue collar city workers in places like Texas, New Mexico and Arizona are legal Mexican immigrants.

Well, if US intelligence does indeed monitor the passenger lists at the Mexican airports (which I would be very surprised if they didn't), it would be very hard for a terrorist intending to fly to Mexico and then sneak across the US border. Will not happen.

If any businesses like major hotels need foreign workers such as bus-boys, maids, cleaners ...etc), they will not hire an undocumented immigrant. They will ensure the immigrant posesses a green card or green card visa in their passport and a social security number. Otherwise, they have been know for sponsoring foreign workers from Mexico. The consequences for hiring an illegal worker makes it not worth the risk. It's a federal felony offense for any American hiring an illegal immigrant.

James, your economy depends on illegal immigrants to fill jobs that don't pay enough for Americans to take. It's been documented time and again. You've had major corporations (Wal-Mart and Hilton, to name two) caught hiring illegal immigrants and paying them less than minimum wage. To say that it isn't happening is ridiculous.

Most of the employers have little choice though, because their competitors do the same, so anybody paying full wages would be undercut on price. That price pressure comes from an economy where people are not willing to pay a fair price because of a culture of tax evasion and hatred of the government.

Federal prosecuters need to beef up their prosecution of such cases, Rev. No more light sentences or slaps on the wrist for those (corporations or individuals) gulity of hiring illegal workers ... no excuses. If we didn't have the illegal workers, and the shortage of workers was clearly evident, we'd simply increase immigration to fill those extra jobs.

fair enough ........as long as NO ONE can leave the US boundaries either. Ya want to surround the US with a wall and isolate it further.......not a biggie(and your choice.)........just make sure it is both ways. ......'cause "we" don't want anyone coming out to polute the security of the rest of the world....and as things stand right now.........the US is the biggest threat to security of this planet., world peace /harmony.

might be an idea to remember that the US needs the rest of the world a lot more than the world needs the cantankerous USand its regime. (and keep in mind who the US owes money to...)

Legal immigrants tend to demand legal wages though. They don't have the fact they are illegal being held over their heads.

I beg to differ, James. I see illegals standing on corners, waiting to jump in a truck for a day's work. Whether you need any help or not. A lot of companies who do lawn or commercial landscaping hire illegal aliens to work for them during the summer, and they go back to Mexico in the winter taking their money with them. It happens. Also contractors pay illegals with cash under the table. So, apparently some people think it is worth the risk.

You are correct Uncle. I have seen them myself on mornings waiting to be picked up on street corners. However, typical work that these illegals perform as you noted involve landscaping, or other type of outdoor work. A respected corporation will surely not take the risk of employing these illegals.
