The long-nosed Diana, by Belgium

28th June 2007

Belgium has issued a gold coin to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the death of Princess Diana.

But on inspection the portrait of Diana inscribed on the coin actually looks a lot more like her son, Prince Harry.

Perhaps it just needs a little tweaking - the gold coin issued by Belgium to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Diana's death

The image is surprisingly boyish and gives Diana a far longer nose, smaller eyes, and a more prominent chin than she had in real life.

It does, however, highlight the likeness between Diana and her son Harry. Prince William, on the other hand, appears to take more after his father, Prince Charles.

The Royal Belgian Mint has produced 1000 gold coins worth GBP 53 each and 2000 gold-plated coins worth GBP 17 with a bust of the Princess of Wales on one side and three roses on the other.

The inscription on one side is in English and reads simply "Princess Diana" while the flipside is engraved with a cross and the dates 1997 to 2007.

The Belgians are big followers of the British Royal family and often prefer them to their own Royals, who symbolize a nation bitterly divided between French and Dutch speakers.

Articles on the loves lives of princes William and Harry regularly appear in the Belgian press.

Princess Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris ten years ago. The memorial concert her sons are planning in her honour will be held this weekend.

Uggg, she looks awful on that coin. Looks more like Robin Williams.
