Diamonds are squished coal and rubies are nothing but corundum a very common mineral abrasive.
Just rocks in the end.
If you cannot afford the real thing why bother with a a synthetic?
A synthetic has no backstory and it has no history it is, in effect a fake.

Paste and costume jewellery can look pretty cool.
The 30's stuff is highly collectable.
Go real or go fake and be proud of it.

You weren't involved in the big 32 conference dust up onthe Tel Aviv Diamond exchange, by any chance?http://www.wfdb.com/PDFs/Statutes/Resolutions&Recommendations.pdf

Teh point is to beware of purchasing shares in diamond mines.

Because making women look beautiful gets men more pleasure......

Most rubies ad saphires sold today are synthetic. You can't tell them apart. The industry accepts it as it is.

To your question, no I was not.
And your link is a bit obtuse and dry.

In any case if you are worried about "blood " diamonds rest easy.
Canadian and Russian "ice" is etched and given a serial number.
In reality, if you care, it is reasonably easy to "source" your rocks.
Heck I knew several pebble pickers back in the day that paid for their vacations a few times over by doing a little local South American gem stone haggling with the diggers.

So what then is the point of your post?

A fake is a fake is a fake.
Synthetic is synthetic.

If you care about your gemstones origins then shop around a bit.
Avoid the stuff with a nasty backstory.

And as to my investments, pretty much all my commodities have been dogs except some O&G.
But my real return bonds and US REIT's have been smoking hot for 2 years.

Meh.I'm not a big jewelry guy & i don't get emotional over the subject.

However, arguing that the manufactored diamonds are FAKE is false. The crystal structure is identical to a natural diamond.
The Tel aviv Bourse flared out into physical fights.

I'm afraid your argument sounds like arguing that man made steel is FAKE,& the world should get by on 'God given meteoric iron'.

I'd sell off shares in diamond mines - my point.

Well if you really don't care about jewellery why did you make the OP?
It's your thread.
And if you don't care why waste your time?
And ours?

BTW I never said synthetic was fake.
I said fake was fake and synthetic was synthetic.

A real Ford AC Cobra can run over a million or two.
A new remanufactured AC with a new 427 and all can be knocked together for about $100,000.
A faster and safer car.
It's worth about $100,000.

How about a synthetic ****?
Works I guess.
From a male perspective I would hope it is less fulfulling to the female gender than the real McCoy.
Whatever.

If you are too cheap to buy your partner a real mined diamond so be it.
A word to the wise
Just don't let her know that it's squeezed coal from some lab.
"But it's really the same honey, honest".

Well,I've been to engagement parties where people scream:

"OMG OGM what a beautiful ring!"( neckace, etc.)

I've yet to see anyone whip out an election scanning microscope to try to determine the origin...

Try to sell that synthetic diamond and the experts will be able to tell immediately.

In the end, a fake is a fake and if you're OK with that, then that's all that matters

You amaze me ,Morgan.
I'm talking about the economic fragility of diamond mining & you appear to be 'going all emotional'.

However, your namesake started out as an outlaw & became a pretty decent Govenor of Jamaica- so theres's hope...

The 'fragility of diamond mining'?... Too funny.

I just thought that you were being a cheap bugger and was struggling with the ethics of doing a bait-and-switch on the gf.

btw - your gf will figure it out. You can try that excuse of 'saving the planet' on her but chances are she'll call bull sh*t on it

I'm consistently amazed that you will call for unbridled capitalism in one thread & then call for protectionism in the next.

Protectionism?... Unless you're referring to the wrath you'll experience from the person that you give the fake diamond to, I am at a loss as to what you are talking about here[/QUOTE]

Yeah,I noticed that....

Jewelers can't tell the difference between a 2013 'laboratory cultured diamond', and something dug out of kimberite.. Technically, extremley expensive analysis can- for now.

And as James Bond can tell you, diamond 'branding' is the biggest fraud going.

But keep buying your de Beers shares..Don't let me stop you...

You might want to learn how to use the quote function... It's an extremely simple process (one click).

hehehe... I can hardly wait for you to learn that lesson from your gf.

Buy the actual commodity; greater security and promise for future returns - same principle for gold, silver, etc..

Fake diamonds are easy to spot. Nekkid eye type stuff. But I wouldn't trust me. I know nothing about "greenstone" or diamonds.

I didn't have to buy. I worked on the Star and took share options from Kensington Resources. My buddy Shawn still runs the show.

OK I give up. The concept of 'investment' blows right past you and Trex.'
