Well, on a personal note. I have spoke to a few people who are die hard liberals, they are liberals all the way. But it just seems personally illogical, they believe that we should tax and spend. But at the same time who are you to tax in order to spend? I mean isn't that socialism/communism; Marxism as the general idea. Do people believe that you have the right to keep what you earn and achieve what you can achieve and not be given to one, that doesn't deserve it? If taxing and spending is all logical, is it even capitalism anymore?

P.S. I am a fiscal conservative/social liberal. :cool::-|:-?:roll::-:)smile::lol:;-):x8O:?::angry3:

I support what works and don't care whether it is viewed as left of right. If something is right wing, but appears to be working then keep it; if not fix it or throw it out. The same is true of left wing programs. It just so happens that economic and social development require input from both left and right. The trick is trying to determine the correct ratio.

Right on- Common sense and logic are not political attributes.

There can be no civilization without taxation. All the modern advances were made with tax money. Taxes provide for the infrastructure, roads, bridges, railways, garbage removal, snow removal etc., without which civilization as we know will be totally impossible.

If there was no taxation, we would still be living in caves. Liberals support free enterprise as well as taxation. If you want to call that Communism, Nazism, Fascism or whatever, be my guest.

Conservatives want all the facilities provided by the government, but don’t want to pay for it. No wonder conservative rack up such astronomical deficits, have been doing so since the times of Reagan.

If you are opposed to taxation, then go back to the simple way of living, build your own shack, grow your own food, live in the countryside, live without using electricity, gas, all the modern conveniences and then campaign for no taxes.

But when you use the road that government has build, the bridge that government has built, make use of the tax subsidies that government has provided, rely on government to defend you, rely on government to provide education for your kids and then don’t want to pay any taxes, that simply exposes you as a hypocrite (a common enough trait among conservatives).

I think what you have a problem with is government helping the poor, the disadvantaged section of the society. You probably have no problem with all the service I have listed so far. But you probably are against the minimum wage, against social assistance for the poor or for the disabled, the elderly, for universal health care etc. You probably do support some taxes, but not the others. Which taxes one supports and which one doesn’t, is purely subjective.

There are certain things that we, as a society, agree are important to provide for all for the betterment of all of us. Education, for example. The idea is that, the more educated all of us are, the better off all of us will be, so we agree that taxation for educating everyone (up to the end of high school) results in a better society for all.

Those who rail against taxation don't seem too willing to go back to the days when fire departments were privately run, and only houses displaying the appropriate signs showing they were paid up would receive fire department services.

Sure, we can all find areas in which we think taxation and government services have gone too far, but that's not to say there isn't room for taxation and some government services.

Do people believe that you have the right to keep what you earn and achieve what you can achieve and not be given to one, that doesn't deserve it?

You'd have to look at 'what you earn', and work backwards to see how much of it is due to government programs. Does your employer get any tax breaks, royalty reductions, R&D grants, government incentives, government contracts, protection from imports, etc etc? 'What you earn' might not be as pure as you might think.

Horsepucks. You mean there can be no government without taxation. And even then you'd be wrong.
All the modern advances were made with tax money.
More poppycock. Most advances are made via private funding.

As we know it today, I agree.
