Nope, and neither did JT. If Harper had won, those same refugees would have come over and placed in the same place. Wouldn't have mattered who was in power.

These refugees had been vetted and approved while Harpers Conservative government was in power.

Perhaps. But Harper didn't have the rush timeline to make it by 12/31. A lot of the issues seem to be the logistics due to the rush.

The second $25K coming this year will be all Trudeau's though. Not to say Harper wouldn't have taken them but that commitment came after the election.

Harper's immigration plan followed an appropriate timeline. His govt didn't advertise them as anything other than refugees. His govt didn't break out govt aircraft to bring them here in a mad rush that even aid agencies across the country baulked at.

Again, only the Liberals did all that.

I don't believe that's true at all. In fact, the Libs and the NDPers were complaining because Harper was being a big meanie because he actually wanted to vet those who came over and they complained that he wasn't bringing them over fast enough. Huh, who knew that someone who basically wanted to make sure the immigrants who came over here and actually wanted to be here, would be demonized because of it.


You see, they kept saying the Conservatives under Harper weren't allowing people to immigrate here but that's not true. Immigration didn't decrease under the Conservatives and actually, if I'm not mistaken, increased under the Conservatives but apparently not fast enough to suit the opposition at the time.


I would rather be safe than sorry and I would also want to be sure that those who came here would, at the very least, appreciate what we're doing for them. The ones complaining should be immediately sent back!


And, the private sponsors are doing a hell of a lot better than the government when it comes to handling the refugees so the government should probably stay out of the business altogether!

I don't disagree that they are in fact refugees from Syria. My issue is with how they were billed and how they were being presented to Canadians, to further justify extreme measures to get them here.

It's no different than the previous govts use of terrorism to push through draconian legislation eroding our civil liberties. Just a different agenda.

But it's a feel good fluffier side so it's ok. It feels good for our ego. Look at how good we pretend to be.

Clearly, the refugees in the camps were not benefactors of all the haste, short circuited processes, and Liberal spending.

If the Liberals were not deceitful, then it is reasonable to say that they botched the job that they set out to do.

I am 1 conservative that has previously stated that I support the resettling of Syrian refugees.

I have also stated that this is the sort of leadership from JT that will earn him my vote in the next election.

It never occurred to me that the government would pass over the refugees in the camps.

Roy Green has interviewed a former Consular Official (I forget what his name was) who was in the Middle East and he said that under the Conservatives we were very active in the refugee camps, not only bringing food and clothing etc., but determining (i.e. vetting) people who would likely do well in Canada. Guess that went out the door!!


He said that all Trudeau had to do was go into the camps and start bringing the people already vetted but because it was under the Conservatives, apparently that wasn't good enough. I am so disgusted with this PM I can't even watch him on TV - I immediately change the channel everytime he comes on because he is SO full of himself it makes me want to throw up!
