You are absolutely right, it's criminal. Here we all sit, knowing exactly what
should be done, and can do nothing about it. There are lots of good cities to
put teams, Seattle is another one, and yes, we will see a team in Kansas, how
stupid, and what about Las Vegas, wonder when that will happen, another
catastrophe.

Yep it's kind of sick, Canada invented the sport, I think we should get a team back in Winnipeg and another in Regina or Saskatoon or maybe better yet 1/2 way in between. But won't happen unless players are ready to take about a 90% cut in salary.

It's got nothing to do with players, it's Bettman trying to stick teams in big
american cities, with lots of corporate money, but no people who give a damn
about hockey, then they lose millions each year, and wonder why.
Why do you keep harping about the players, when it's the owners/managers/and
nhl commissioner who control all of that, not the players.

You've hit the nail on the head. The player's salaries have nothing to do with it(if they do, it is just a very small fraction of it). It is mismanagement of the League by Bettman(I'd love to punch that smug little smile off that toad's face!
) that is the root of it all.

Over-expansion has diluted the talent pools of many teams and that is why there are so many crappy teams out there. Add to the fact that he allowed cities with little or no hockey fanbases and you have a problem that will only get better. Phoenix, Nashville? In loads of trouble.

You have a Canadian billionaire who stated(three times!) that he would purchase a team, but Bettman gave him all sorts of stipulations(1.the NHL would control what he could do...um what the hell is the point of owning a team if the NHL would be running it? Nice try Bettman, you TOOL! 2. He had to keep the team where it was. Yeah, and then it would be HIS money that would be going down the drain!) so he wouldn't make the purchase. Bettman's ego is too great to allow him to admit he has made (many) mistakes and will not accept any help unless it somehow allows him to save face.

Back then Bettman didn't have revenue sharing like they do now. Look at Phoenix for example. They are losing tons of money yet Bettman does not want to either relocate them or fold them. He would rather the other teams pay out of their pockets to keep them around. If he had done this when Winnipeg and Quebec were floundering then they might still be around. His anti-Canadian bias is staggering(he would not want a team to relocate to Canada yet he wouldn't mind if a team went to Kansas). He is one of the worst things that has ever happened to the NHL.:angryfire:

When did that revenue sharing come in, as I do remember the canucks receiving
financial help when our dollar was so 'useless', some years ago, and the
complaining from some of the u.s. teams who had to fork out the money, just
as our canadian teams have to do now, along with u.s. successful teams.

To be honest, I am not sure of the exact date.

Maybe we all should get together and start a petition demanding that the next
nhl team moved, or started, must be in canada.:-|

If it would have any chance of making a difference, I would concur. However, Bettman would still maintain his course and try to get more teams in the US.

I agree, but I wonder if he has ever had any 'real' pressure from the canadian
people/fans, he struts around his big office with the whole nhl dangling on his
every whim, I mean he's only about 4 ft tall, we should be able to handle him.:-?
