China and India have been around for 1000s of years.

Don't you think they have had enough time to develop?

The surest sign of a developed country is per capita income. None of the rhetoric or subjective opinion is important. By per capita income, China and India are very muck poor, developing countries.

And what does 1000s of years have to do with it? Sudan is 1000s of years old. So is Egypt. Does this mean that Egypt, Sudan are developed countries?

No it isn't. When a country like China can bankroll and keep America afloat, has a manned space program, has a booming economy, can easily sustain a million man army... they're developed regardless of what some Chinese street merchant makes.

especially since China bankrolls US debt and the exploration and exploitation of oil reserves...

Personally I have no idea whether China is a developed country or not but one of the resident know it alls made the statement recently that Canada is borrowing money from China, so I guess what that means in that an "undeveloped Country" is financing a developed country.............

I may have been wrong about Obama and the size of his nuts, they appear to be as big as Bush's but for the right reasons.

Avro, it is rare for a politician to show the courage of his conviction, to implement something because it is the right thing to do. Obama and the Democrats showed a rare courage.

And what is the worst that will happen? He may lose in 2012 (even that is not a given). Big deal. I am sure Obama would much rather lose because he passed health care reform, than lose because he didn't.

The health care reform is here to stay, the Repulbican bluster notwithstanding. Obama made a difference, that is all any politician can hope for.

Don't confuse the issue with facts.

Furthermore, if Canada and the US is being bankrolled by China, does that mean we're a developing nation?

So what is wrong with that? The only indication of whether a country is developed or not is how much wealth it has, how much it is producing. Anything else is irrelevant. One judges if a man is rich or not by how much money he has. Why should that be different for a country?

Both India and China have very low per capita income. I think India's GDP is 1/10th that of USA, its population is more than 3 times that of USA. Even if India sustains the current high rate of growth for a long time (a near impossibility) and USA stops growing, it will be decades before it catches up with USA.

Both India and China are developing countries.

What will be interesting is that the IRS is now charged with eventually collecting money from the 37 or so million people who are uninsured. Keep in mind these are not the poor and people on welfare. The poor have always had free healthcare. The uninsured are mostly self employed or people who refused to buy into any plans. Now they will be mandated (forced) to buy health care insurance and the IRS will ensure that they do and levy penalties on them when they don't.

The IRS WILL get their money.

Although I disagree with their tactics, you have to understand where they're coming from.

They see a program that will dip into their slimming pocketbooks.

I can't say I would be all that happy to accommodate that myself.

That is the difference between you and I.

I think the whole argument about "developed countries" is rather silly. If I buy a piece of property as soon as I dig a fence post hole I am deemed to be developing it.

Maybe a better indicator would be GDP

GDP (most recent) by country

GDP is a good indicator juan, but that doesn’t tell all the story. If one considers GDP alone, that will mean that China is richer than Britain, Canada, France etc., which is plainly nonsense.

China has high GDP because it has a huge population. GDP per capita will be more relevant. USA has a GDP of 13.3 trillion, China of 2.6 trillion. USA has a population of 300 million, China 1 billion.

That means per capita, USA has a GDP 17 times that of China. Canada has per capita GDP 16 times that of China. One American produces as much as 17 Chinese, 1 Canadian as much as 16 Chinese.

That indeed is the difference between a developed and a developing country.

No, because the only measure of being a developed nation is per capita income.
Which can be easily manipulated by a socialist state such as China. Hence the states ability to fund both a nuclear program and a space program, while a fair chunk of the populace lives in squalor.

So what is wrong with that? The only indication of whether a country is developed or not is how much wealth it has, how much it is producing. Anything else is irrelevant. One judges if a man is rich or not by how much money he has. Why should that be different for a country?
By that definition, India, Russia and China, are not developing nations...

Both India and China are developing countries.
Only in per capita income.

If their perspective Govt's didn't hord money to fund war machines, or allow foreign companies to exploit their people, you would see a much different per capita.

That is the difference between you and I.
To some extent. I disagree with handouts, I fully support handups.

I think the whole argument about "developed countries" is rather silly. If I buy a piece of property as soon as I dig a fence post hole I am deemed to be developing it.
Agreed.
