Well they do have a defined threat. All enemies foreign and domestic.

What other democracy encourages its citizens to arm themselves against their fellow citizens, just in case?

I never received encouragement from the government to arm myself. In fact every pistol permit is rejected by our Cheif of Police unless you appeal to him directly. Hardly encouraging.

What other democracy has such an elaborate and undemocratic security apparatus?

I guess they all do. What makes your's better? And we do not have a National Police Force like the RCMP.

And we don't get arrested for Political Speech violations.
