Biggest problem with socialism is that it is most often over managed and not well.
Properly managed Socialism works and it works well.

Even Lenin was scared sh*tless of true Socialism and it was true Socialism that defeated the Soviet Commies.

Never confuse Socialism with Communism, they are like night and day.

Many ideologies have their strong points. The main thing is that the ideology serves the people and not the other way around.

Well for someone who completely surrendered to Quebec sovereigntists.. appointing them to federal offices.. and capitulating to a sleazy group of the Quebec political class who wanted all of the political power of a separate state... while retaining all the benefits of confederation with Canada... with none of its responsibilities (through the Meech Lake Accord).. that's rich.. the musings of a failed administration.

Mulroney's whole career was one of pathetic pandering to one perceived power base or another.. presumably to compensate for a pathological inferiority complex. If it wasn't Quebec sovereigntists who used his weakness cynically to their own ends.. it was the Global Investment Organism.. to whom he sold out the country with Free Trade.

As to the Conservative Party.. the thing is a completely unsound structure now. The shotgun wedding between the Reform and PCs was one of practical political ambition... not philosophical integrity. Which is why the caucus is seething with tension and stresses now.. and why it will ultimately fall apart.

Mr Harper is anything but a socialist he is on the extreme right. He did not blow off the Reformers ether he instead asked them to be patient while he dismantled the country one piece at a time. Mr Harper will indeed face much more opposition in the lead up to the next election. There is also a chance the two other main parties will for a loose unification in order to form a coalition government should he not get a majority. A majority for the next Harper government is only a distant dream, he has crested in popularity and the restless Canadians are getting ready to look for something new.

No. Its just that we have been ruled by more extreme leftist parties for so long that a center-right gov't looks extreme because our steady slide to a more extreme position has been halted. As for Harper's re-election chances, well, that's a long way off so I'll reserve judgement on his chances until I see what the opposition can muster to challenge him.

What opposition? A bunch of kids in Quebec does not constitute an opposition.

Not surprising. This is a guy who thought bringing money home in a brown paper bag was just fine........

Ah, you beat me to it, juan.

May be, then again.........maybe not. Time will tell, DG............I wouldn't be quite so fast at discounting the non-restless Canadians.
