Just about the last instruction the referee says to both fighters is: "Protect yourself at all times".

Seems that Ortiz not only wanted to fight dirty, but forgot the most basic principle of boxing.

Ortiz violated the fundamental principle of boxing when he failed to protect himself. While I didn't hear referee Cortez say ''box'', there is no obligation for the boxer to wait for him to make that call. Therefore, while I am troubled by the ending, I have to credit Mayweather with the win.

The problem I had was his disrespectful conduct toward Larry Merchant. Mr Merchant has done a lot for this great sport. There were years were certain delusionals demanded that the sport be banned as it was in Sweden. Thankfully, he and others kept it going strong. Mayweather wouldn't be counting all that money if it was for people like him. I hope the WBC issued a stiff fine for his vicious words.
