This is nothing new with the Catholic Church, not too long ago when a woman got pregnant but was in danger of dying during childbirth the church would not allow the doctors to save the mother even if she had a lot of children at home. These church rules were written by men that wanted to control their faithful and it is still going on today in countries where there is little or no education. These people are at the mercy of the church and you can be sure they will take all the advantages they can.

I would respect the RC Church more if ....
They would treat their faithful as adults and not children needing to be led....
They would get out of the sex/sin business and educate their faithful regarding healthy sex within and without marriage - without condoning it - but appreciating education will create healthier lifestyles.
Too much sin - too little understanding.
And keeping much of their religious celibate is something tantamount to criminal.... and no matter how I put a religious spin on it - the feeling I have is keeping people "single" is cheaper for the Church...
Africa is a tragic "outing" of the uselessness of their current philosophy.
